Dusty a Green cheek conure parrot born mid October 2013
My green cheek is 9 months old and he has bonded beautifully with me trusts me completely. He doesn't bite me unless my 5 yr old comes within a foot of us. And he is biting to hurt to draw blood, and to get my son not actually me. (not just the lil nip u get if he doesn't want that quill rubbed) I will grant that when we first got him sometimes the then 4 yr old would scare the bird yell at him throw clothes between them as a barrier. We super told him off and he stopped, but the bird doesn't forget and won't forgive him. My son has to always be a distance away he can't walk down the hallway if the bird is already there. The bird charges his toes. Which is a pain always "rescuing" my son from the bird my son lives in fear.. My conure is usually out of his cage when we are home.

How do I get my two boys to be able to sit on the same couch with me ??? For my bird dusty to not be afraid of my son who only was bad with him only till he knew better. I must express the bird was never hurt by him. Just frightened from him waving things and the noise....

It would take your son consistently being gentle and non threatening to the bird which might be hard for him. My gcc loves my three year old daughter, but she's very gentle and almost submissive to the bird. Birds are prey animals. Your bird has decided your son is a potential predator so he's warning you to get away when the predator comes near by biting.

You could try to save the birds favorite treats to be only given by your son, but at five and maybe without the natural inclination towards animals some kids have...it might be hard. First and foremost, you have to train your SON. Then you can deal with the bird.

Can you keep the bird completely out of sight of your son for a while?

Then, "reintroduce" them with you son bearing treats?

Birds just don't forget, much as we might like them to do just that. Your son may not gave physically hurt the bird, but mentally/emotionally sounds like he dud quite a number in him. It will take time, patience and your bird learning to trust your son again. It could be weeks, months... Hard to say. Just be patient, good luck!!!!!
