Remember how there's this saying around the bird community about how the unlikeliest bird ends up stealing your heart? Well, that just happened to me today!

I stopped by the local bird club's shelter to join, and I met this older Patagonian Conure. She has cataracts, but sweet as pie! I have never seen this kind of conure in person before. I spent a good 15-20 mins giving her scritches and she just loves to cuddle with you!

I hate to say it, but if I was in the position to bring home another bird right now, I would have signed the paperwork! Maybe if she's still here after we get this garage and bird room project done, I'll bring her home. LOL!

Here's a link to her info:

Aaaw. I fell in love with one of those once. His name was Doofus. I was sadly not able to adopt him.

Patagonians are beautiful. Is it a lesser or greater? I forgot which one is more usually seen.
I've heard that they're extremely loud! I love the way the head/eyes look. Very different.

Very different, indeed!! She makes this cute clucking noise when she's happy. lol!

They think she's a lesser, but not 100% sure. I'll have to look this species up, now!

I think so, too. From what I could find online quickly, it seems the greater are "rarely seen" in aviculture. So it'd probably a safe bet to say she's a lesser.

Patties are interesting birds. I fostered one for awhile (Cleo - ever notice a patties eyes? Cleopatra eyes!) and it was ultimately adopted out to a friend of mine.

They are semi-nocturnal. Night owls. They tend to sleep in. Big personalities, like most conures. Pretty calm tempernments, though like all conures, they have a feisty side. They are cliff/cave dwellers, which is why they have such big feet. They like to dig.

They are a very nice size too. Not too big, not too small. And they're hardy, although you do occasionally get a plucker. They're not really screamer. Very quiet for a conure...

And they make good trick birds. They're very trainable.

You don't see more of them in the pet trade because they're not as colorful as most conures, but they are one of the better pet quality conures out there.

Really?! That's interesting. My patty was one of the quietest birds I ever owned. Barely a peep out of her. Just happy "play" noises.
