Juv or adult?

My sun conure was found in a tree, so I know nothing about it. I think it's a boy because he likes me a little more than my husband, but of course that's just a hardly educated guess. He is moulting and was hand raised, very sweet and banded. Can anyone tell if he is moulting from juvenile plumage to adult? Or is he already in adult plumage, leaving me no clue to his age? He flits his wings quite often, I'm not sure if this is indicative of a young bird or not.

Does he have a band? Some birds are Micro-chipped. Have you taken him to the vet yet? I highly suggest you take him to the vet. They can find out if the original owners are looking for him. plus you can have him tested for illness and disease, since he was found in a tree.

Did you try to find the original owners? They are probably heartbroken and are looking for him.

To answer your question, he does have his adult plumage, but there's no way to know how old he actually is.

I have been looking on pet lost and founds and craigslist, and I called the only avian vet in the area he was found and left my contact info. We are in the car now on the way to a vet.

Back from the vet, no micro chip but he does have a respiratory infection. I was afraid of that since he has been sneezing. Got him some antibiotics so hopefully he'll be feeling better soon! Vet said he seems young but she is not sure. She also said he had a curved beak and I forgot ask further about that. Anyone know if this is something I should do something about? She didn't seem concerned but it got a little overshadowed by the respiratory infection.

Oh I didn't see last two posts! We named him Skittles and quickly after found out that may be the most popular name for sun conures haha! His band says SE TX 7. We will keep him, we have fallen in love with him! I can't believe nobody is looking for him, but I would find it harder to believe that good owners couldn't get him back. He was in the same tree at an apt complex for two days and came down easily for my friend. He just wants to sit on our shoulders all day! Such a sweet bird!

Oops, sorry Emily, I replied to your post in, New Members Welcome, before I read this post. Sounds like the conure is yours. I just hate to think of someone accidentally losing a bird they really love, I know how awful I'd feel, but I would be searching everywhere and putting up posters too.

He sounds like a sweet bird. Hope he gets over his respiratory problems soon. Are you sticking with the name, Skittles?

Timothy, thanks for trying to find info on the breeder! 4dugnlee, thank you very much, we are very happy he has made his way to us! Allee, I am still checking craigslist here and there but, like you, if I had lost this bird I would have flyers up and would have posted in every facebook group, local lost and found, craigslist, and vet office around looking for him. I figure if I still haven't seen any posts or posters about him, he isn't being looked for. That's just fine by me! :)

Oh and yes, we're sticking with Skittles. It may be a super common name but my daughter loves it.

the "7" in his band MAY represent the year, but its hard to say... thinking if it is the year it could be 2007?

dally, my female tiel is banded. her number is 473 10 N AAC with the "10" being 2010 the year she was born. "473" is her i.d. number and AAC is where the band is registered (Aviculture Advancement Counsel of Canada) and the "N" is the size... but some bands are different each code is different. but just to give you an idea of how band codes work.

but i'd like to place my bets on the "7" being the hatch year of your bird. SE TX 7 "TX" is Texas i am pretty sure. so there's the state your bird is from. so with that info, he'd be about 7 years old?

hes adorable and i hope he feels better. thats all i can really guess on the bird band, it's better than nothing.
