So the past week Iago hasn't wanted to come out of his cage. He's never been like this before. He has always wanted to be out and around me whenever I'm home and I always let him. This is very strange for him. Have any of you been through this before? What can I do to help him want to come out again?

Has anything changed or moved in the room? Have you got a new haircut, color, or make-up? Birds are very sensitive to change. Just think hard about it and if thats the case try to fix it.

Is he acting sick or lethargic? is he moving about his cage? is he injured?

I did get a new record player a couple weeks ago that is on other side of the room (which is quite far away from his cage. He has been out since I set it up and has been around while I play records. He didn't seem to mind it at all. Other than that I can't think of a single thing that has changed.

He moves around his cage and plays with what little toys he likes in there (he doesn't like toys much for some reason). He has been eating and drinking well. He acts excited when I get home but just doesn't want to leave his cage. There are no noticeable injuries as he is eating normally (with one foot holding food), climbing on the bars and moving around on his perches.

He is a he, I had him sexed 2 years ago.

Also, thank you all for the suggestions and thoughts of why he is acting this way. I appreciate it. He still didn't want to come out this morning. I thought that it might be a change in routine but there really hasn't been any change.

Sorry, I should have posted this last week but I've been busy. All of a sudden when I got home from work on the 25th, Iago came right out and has been doing it ever since. Absolutely nothing had changed in routine or surroundings. Maybe it's just something he goes through every once in a while? I don't think he needs the "alone time" because he would always yell for me when I went out of the room, which got frustrating since he wanted to stay in his cage. Anyway, it's back to normal for now.

Oh that's great that he is back to himself. Once in a while my sun conure Cisco will not come out to me. I notice it is usually in the morning or when he is busy playing/shredding a toy. But it never lasts for more than a couple hours and if he prefers to stay in his cage, I let him and then just go back later.
