Green Cheek Conure, born July 2013
I am not even sure where to start, I am a new owner of a GCC. He is about 15 months old, came from a pet store. Not aggressive, runs from our hand if we try to reach out and scritch him but will take his favorite treat from our hand or eat a small taste of peanut butter from my finger, but warily.

Took him for a vet appointment last Sunday, had his wings clipped and nails cut. He let us scritch him and hold him finally. We worked on scritches all week and he will finally stop running and allow it in small doses, so progress. Today I had to clean his cage and could not get him to come out. So I reached in slowly and scritched him first, them gently got ahold of him. Well, I learned quick that he didn't like that at all since he drew blood, lol. I cleaned his cage quickly and my husband watched him walk around the floor and investigate.

When I was changing the papers I noticed that his poop is like water. No formation at all. He has also stopped his crazy screeching since last Sunday. He used to screech for hours every morning but he has been very quiet. He seems to be eating but has not been dunking his food in the water which he normally does all the time. I am not sure if anything here is connected or if he is suddenly sick. We have very few avian vets around here and not one available until next Sunday. Not sure what to do. We have also been testing out different foods, so not sure if that is a factor.

I am so sorry this is so long, I really want to give him the best care and I am becoming worried. Any advice would be appreciated.

Is there any chance that you could bring him in as an emergency?

Here's a link about different poops made by DallyTsuka, it's really informative and could give you a head starts to determine what's wrong. http://www.parrotforums.com/general-parrot-information/48146-photo-informative-collages-i-put-together.html

Is there anything new in the environment that gives off an aroma or makes him feel insecure? As in a predator nearby causing stress (the poop) and having him feel more protective trying to move less?

Keep us posted on what's happening, I hope he feels better soon.

First, your post is really not ever three paragraphs, I've got a post around here on the forums that runs three pages, so if you need to get a bit wordy to say what you need to say, just say what you need to say.....

Now, for your new feathered friend, how long have you had him? Off hand, from what you've posted, I'd be inclined to wager that his watery poop is stress related.....

In his 15 months, he's been taken from his parents, hand fed, then taken from his feeding mates & shipped/taken to a pet store where he probably made some new friends, if only at a distance in another cage, then in you walk and he's on another house moving adventure.....

Don't get me wrong, you have done nothing that many of us have not done for/with their new feathered friends, but no sooner than he gets to his new home and doesn't even get a chance to get used to that new home before he's whisked away to a veterinarian's office where his mobility was severely limited, then there are these hands chasing him around his cage.....companion parrots are a bit more reserved in accepting a new flock member, let alone what your little friend has been asked to endure.....I think I would be inclined to slow down a little & let things progress at a GCC's speed and on his terms.....

Keep offering him treats, quit chasing him around his cage, quit trying to grab him, though, for lack of better terminology, I grab mine sometimes.....sitting by his cage talking to him softly has worked for me.....leave his cage door open to encourage him to come out while you are seated nearby, maybe with several pieces of his favorite treat laying on the back of your hand...when he takes those, praise him, but leave it at that & go about whatever else you might need to do around the house...if he can't see you, he'll probably call for you or maybe come looking for you also, but if you have dogs or cats, you'll need to put the out or up, to protect your little friend.....but the best tip I can offer you is to slow down & let your GCC set the pace, but that doesn't mean you can't start any training you might be thinking about.....

Good luck.....

ps: My post is longer than yours ! ! !
