Conure died suddenly

So last night my mom's conure died unexpectedly. She was a little over 7 months old and I had gotten her for my mom as a birthday present. We've had birds in the past and since i'm in college, and my mom has wanted a bird again, I found two conures for sale. I took the male and she took the female. My mom spoiled her rotten and made sure everything in the house was safe for her. She stopped using dangerous cleaners and even got cookware that was safe. We've had the birds for about 2.5 months and they were both very healthy. Last night, my mom called because her bird was breathing funny and she didn't know what to do. It was around 11 at night and no vet office was open so I tried looking up everything I could to help. She couldn't hold herself up, she was wheezing, and her heart rate was really fast. After about 40min of that my mom said she looked like she was calming down, that's when her bird starting having a violent seizure and then died. It was heartbreaking because I was on the phone and couldn't be there to help directly. My mom blames herself even though she took care of her and, in my opinion, did nothing to harm her. I've tried looking up everything I can but I can't figure out what happened. The bird was super healthy and playful, we don't understand what happened.

I'm so very sorry to hear this. Sometimes our pet birds die suddenly for unknown reasons... I've seen online threads where not even an autopsy helped. It sounds like your mom was doing everything right. Birds tend to hide illnesses as a defense mechanism (you're easy prey if you appear weak in the wild), so it's often not till the near end that you begin to notice symptoms. The conure could have gotten something before she came into your possession. You'll really never know without an autopsy (which could still come up blank).

I am sorry for your mother's loss.....

As mentioned above, sometimes we suddenly lose our birds, I have & many other of our members have, but the only way to know the whys, is with a necropsy & since this happened last night, the bird should have been refrigerated as soon as it passed, then taken to a veterinarian for proper examination.....

That's awful, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom's conure, that must had been a traumatic event for both of you.

Ohhhh no,so sorry :-( prayers. I'm very new to being owned by my birds,but I know how much I love them and they love me,I'm sure your moms bird felt very loved til the end.

Sorry for the loss of your mom's bird! I had a healthy 11 year old conure die suddenly and having necropsy and histopathology, it was still only an educated assumption. It is hard to take emotionally, not having clear answers. I'm sorry and I hope your bird is doing just fine.

I'm sorry to hear about yours and your moms loss. Its never easy to loose someone you love.
