So Sakura is calling (asking for food) all the time (I'm sure I feed her enough though), if not, she's sleeping. Now she's discovered that legs move her around and her beak can help her up, and she constantly forces her way to my shoulder to sleep, it's adorable.

As of yesterday/today her voice has changed! She seems to be sounding different, but I can't describe it. She sounds more like a BIRD than a screeching phone lol I was wondering if that's normal around this time. Every time I google ANYTHING about baby birds, its about small wild birds and how to care for them. Nothing about what Im looking for. I put my head close to her though, to hear her breath and she sounds perfectly fine. I was scared she might be sick.

I would call and make an appointment with an avian vet close to you.
When I first got my Sun (at five weeks) he lost his voice randomly and started squeaking when he tried to make a sound. I took him to the vet and he turns out he had a cold. He was put on antibiotics for about a week and he regained his voice.
Hopefully Sakura is healthy and it's nothing to worry about :)

That's interesting, because everything I've ever read, parrots don't get colds.....do you mind posting the name & contact information for your vet, I would like to contact them to verify that it is possible for parrots to catch colds ! ! !

Thanks

Well I made a call to my vet and he insisted that I stayed home. He said it was normal for the voice to change as long as the breathing sounded right and she didn't seem to be acting any differently. A couple of days later she has at least three different types of vocalizations, he told me it's just her exploring her voice! Because her voice is changing, but not getting any lower or anything.

OH and he also told me that if I noticed and sneezing and discharge to take her though, because those are signs of vitamin A deficiency, but since she's on a baby bird formula it's unlikely because the formula is pretty well balanced for a baby bird's needs (she isn't sneezing or has any discharge btw)

Sorry, you didn't mention you were still hand feeding Sakura, glad to hear he's OK, but I'd still like to contact your vet to make sure I've not been keeping some wrong information about birds being able to catch colds.....thanks.....

Actually, it wasn't the OP who mentioned the cold, but a subsequent poster.

As I understand it, though, birds are largely unaffected by human colds. I have, however, known vets to refer to avian infections as "colds" for the sake of expediency and simplification. I doubt the vet in question was actually implying the transmission of a human cold. (Let me know, virenta, if I'm mistaken on that.)

Like Anansi said, it wasn't me who mentioned the cold :c But my vet told me anything resembling a cold is more possibly a vitamin A deficiency than what humans know as colds. Though they could have a virus with similar symptoms! But since mine's only symptom was voice change, he said it'd be best to not stress her out by taking her to him. Also I'm from Puerto Rico, unless you know Spanish I don't think it's likely that a proper conversation could happen between my vet and you guys xD

Edit: And I didn't mention the hand feed because I posted she's 6 weeks old, I figured that age is usually hand feed only xD My bad!
