Stubborn boy

My GCC won't give me his wings unless I bathe him and is a pain to clip his nails, he is cuddly but on his own terms and I don't know how to make these actions easier for him to accept.
The biggest problem is that he has recently become possessive of his poops. If he poops on the couch or on me he refuses to let me clean it up and will get angry at the tissue I use to clean it up. He doesn't care if its on his play gym though, only me or the couch. He hasn't bit hard enough to make me bleed or anything, but he bites hard when I try to clean it up. How do I stop him from being possessive about his poops??

Re: Stubborn boy

I simply block my birds with one hand as I clean up the mess with the other. It's not that they're possessive over their poops, they just tend to see tissues as threatening fluffy white things.

Re: Stubborn boy

THats funny! Sorry. My Sheldon goes into "attack mode" when I screw the lid back onto his water and even when I put his water bottle on the cage. Anytime I'm screwing a lid on and he can reach my hand. It's like he goes into this weird "auto pilot" and then he's done. I flinch every time tho. I try to avoid the "attack mode" as much as possible. Sure glad we dont have the Poop issue.

Re: Stubborn boy

lol, I am smiling as I read the responses. Fiji has a thing where she hates the scissors. I made the mistake of cutting open a package while she was on me...She gave me a good bite on the inside of my arm, it almost broke the skin! Lucky for them, they are so cute, lol. They get away with a lot!

Re: Stubborn boy

I'd suggest taking the bird to a different area before cleaning the poops. If that won't work for you then try distracting him with a favorite seed. Eventually he may calm down about the tissue. A more long-lasting solution would be potty-training (What I'm trying to accomplish with Teeko). You can do some research on potty training, there are different methods. Good luck.

Re: Stubborn boy

I have my little guy kind of potty trained. He will generally hold it until I put him on his play gym, and tell him he is a good boy for pooping there, sometimes he asks before I tell him so, but if I don't put him up there in time he will poop wherever, he won't go to his place, just hold it until I set him there.

I have also tried setting him on the other one of the couch and when he sees me going to the poop he runs as fast as possible to protect it. While it is funny, it is not acceptable.
