:60: I wanted to update on my progress with Doodle. As some people know,I got Doodle from neighbor who abandoned him. EXTREMELY fearful of hands. ALLEE referred me to DELFINS link about techniques to gain trust with your bird and bonding.....ABSOLUTELY A MUST READ!! I implemented the offer of Doodles favorite treat: carrots. 1st day...nothing doing, didn't get near my hand. 2nd day: Doodle actually came towards my hand and WANTED to take the carrot ....he realized I would take carrot away. Yesterday Doodle actually came towards my hand and TOOK the carrot from me!!! Also, later that evening he came off his cage and walked across the back of my couch and actually came to play with my hair AND got on my shoulder! Still won't come near hand so had to let him hop off shoulder and onto cage. I'm so excited!! I know slow and steady.....I can't say THANK YOU enough for DELFINS information. For MY particular circumstances, DELFINS link is perfect. There is a WEALTH of solid info. for ALL situations and from a great bunch of fellow parrot owners. I know with time and using what knowledge I gain from my fellow members....Doodle and me will be hand -n-hand (so to speak) soon!!

I'm glad your making progress with Doodle:) I bet you anything at some point in time, Doodle was trusting of humans and possibly even knew some basic commands (like stepping up). Once a bird is removed from a negative environment and see the humans around them are trying to be kind, or are giving them attention an proper nutrition, they 'remember' pretty quickly that all humans aren't to be feared.

Being so out of touch with bird companionship (20+yrs) I'm grateful for ALL the usefull info I get from everyone. I will be searching each forum for more training tips, especially the basics of stepping up &how stepping down. We just need to work on the hand fear first. I'm sure I'll be asking some amateurish questions, feel free to roll your eyes..LOL....bear with me! Trying to get better pix of. Doodle, camera shy! Gonna see what we accomplish today!!
