looking for a new bird...HELP

HELLO FELLOW BIRD LOVERS-

So i have desperately wanted an African grey for some time now, HOWEVER because of what I've read I'm shying away. I have 3 small girls (human children

) and I'm not sure this species would be the best choice.... I'm a bit upset....but I've also been looking into green cheeked and black cap (used to have a black cap Pirri, he died 3 years ago...had a sun conure also but husband couldn't take the screeching...my dad has him now...hes obsessed with KIKI....the bird is spoiled rotten, and i still get to see him often

....but I'm having bird fever,...i need a baby...any ideas on the AG or GCC? :green:

Think very hard before getting a bird you dont really want. I mean conures live so long.
Im not trying to dissuade you but getting what you really want and making it work might be a better option then settling for something that you will be dissappointed with in the long run.
Having children shouldnt be a deterent(ive had four of my own). I mean plenty of large parrots grow up with families and do great. Just takes more commitment, like adopting another kid.
Personally I think getting a long lived parrot like a grey works with young people with children because they grow up with the family and if and when you get old or can no longer care for the bird then surely one of the children can inherit and the parrot goes to someone familiar instead of strangers.
Anyway sorry probably not much help here.

I completely agree. Don't get a bird you really don't want just so you can have a bird! If you're going to get a bird get a bird you really want. I had a CAG with 2 young boys (they were 4 and 6 when I got my CAG) so it can be done. It just takes more patients, training and commitment.

I had a gray with my kiddos and all was great growing up. We socialized and hung out and had lots od play time. My gcc is awesome! Love him to bits...both are great. Both need time. Grays need lots of time, especially as they are young.
