I was playing on the floor with Django when he jumped on my shoulder and started nibbling my ear. I felt him play with my earring and before I could stop him he'd taken off the back. I can't find my earring back anywhere. He's not acting distressed and he's still playful. Due to a high number of bills this month I can't afford a vet visit! Any reassurance he'll pass it (if he swallowed it) would be appreciated. Do conures really swallow these things? They can tell it's not food can't they?

Ahhh, that's good to hear! Finding something you think they swallowed on the outside of the bird is always better than having a vet find the foreign object on the inside. I know you must be very relieved.

I'm glad you found it cause it is not wise to wait for them to pass it. Depending on what type of metal it is it can give them metal poisoning and cause more harm then good. A member off here loss her Senegal due to swallowing a metal object. If that does happen they need to be seen by a vet ASAP.

I know that scares feeling. Last week my tiel Jet was hanging out with my mom.. I told het she should take off her necklace and went to my room. Not 30 seconds later she called me to tell me Jet bit and broke her chain. I wad very glad when I finally found all the little pieces.

Right after I brought Cisco home he pulled one of my earrings out. I got it from him right away so I knew he didn't swallow it. I quickly realized I would not be wearing earrings or necklaces around the fids...lol. It's worth it though!
