Morning and Evening Calls

Hey Guys!
I was just wondering... My sun conure doesn't flock call in the morning or evening, is this unhealthy?
He's just shy of a year old and is an only bird that was hand raised, so far i have just put it down to him only being young, not being taught to do this by a parent bird (i'm not sure how much of it is instinctual) and not being exposed to other birds that do this?? feel free to jump in anywhere and call me a fool as this is all just theory.
This obviously isn't a problem for me but should i be encouraging him to "sound off"? I don't mind a bit of noise at all, trust me i didn't get a sun conure for the peace and quiet lol, he's quite quiet overall to be honest, i keep saying i'm kidding myself that I've found the only quiet conure and once he hits puberty he's gonna turn into a screaming harpy. He's not a timid bird by any means so i wouldn't say it's behaviour related as i'm his first owner and he hasn't come from some abused home.
His morning routine is my partner will uncover him when he leaves for work, he won't start making any noise until he hears me getting up at which point he lets off "happy to see you" screams until i let him out or go over and make a fuss, he settles down quickly then we have breakfast together. (he even lets me have lie ins on weekends)
Evenings are the same he's started to get a little excited about 6 o clock in the evening but this is just because its around the time my other half get's home.
Anyway sorry for rambling off topic any thoughts and suggestions welcome i would love to hear about how different some peoples birds are when it comes to sounding off and when they prefer to make a noise etc and just to double check that there isn't anything the matter with him. Thanks

As long as his behavior hasn't suddenly changed, I wouldn't worry. Sammy doesn't scream in the morning, either. It's not like it is a required behavior--just one many birds do that people would be remiss not to mention to possible owners. Or that's what I understand from what I have read, anyway.

None of that seems like a cause for concern to me I have an IRN who doesn't call in the morning either, but will call when a bird leaves the room or I enter it. It sounds like he calls based on contact rather than on light, which is nothing to worry about as far as I know.

yeah that's pretty much what i thought i just didn't want him missing out on something he might enjoy (lol i just read that back to myself)
like i said things may change when hormones kick in but as long as he's happy i'm happy.

Silver sage - Yes he's definitely more contact based, getting better at letting me be out the room for longer though, i've tried using a two tone whistle as a call to him but i've stopped as it only seemed to encourage him. thanks for the advice

My GCC doesn't call in the mornings or evenings either. Occasionally he will whistle for me when he sees me going upstairs or hears me in other parts of the house. It's all good!

Chunky doesnt do it either. We have an understanding in our house. He always greets us with two short squawks and we say beep beep to him lol. Even after only having with a month he has caught on quickly.
To be honest, hes not very noisy at all. I do love his contented little mumbling noises he makes when snuggled up in my hair.
I wouldnt worry at all about yours not making flock calls. Maybe it does have something to do with being hand reared as Chunky was too.

IMO it 'may' have something to do with being an 'only' bird, rather than having something to do with having been hand reared.

All of mine were hand reared, and Hunter (my 16 year old YN) didn't start 'sounding off' until I added a DYH to the family. I can't say it's 'music to my ears' when all 4 of mine decide to welcome a new dawn. :54: Luckily it never lasts very long.

Jerseywendy - yeah i agree, all of the hand raise birds i've owned have been on the quieter side, i wonder if things will change later in the year when we add another member to the flock... fingers crossed my lie ins won't become a thing of the past

I have 3 parrots and finches in the same room. The finches start chattering away at the same time every morning. The parrots don't make a peep until they hear a human stirring and then they sound off. They are great about letting us sleep in. Same thing when I get home from work. As soon as I pull into the driveway Zoe starts yelling her head off because she knows when I walk in the door I'm going to let her out.

this is definitely the case in my house, i think what concerned me wasn't that he was a quiet bird but that he was a quiet sun conure. Their not supposed to be good talkers either but since mastering his first word "ello" which did take a couple of weeks he's since been picking up a few words or phrases every week and has even started word associating a few things like shower and bed time etc. I'm hoping now that he's learnt to talk i he will prefer to talk to get my attention instead of using his big voice, it's going pretty well so far just through positive reinforcement every time he talks and ignoring the unwanted behaviour. I guess i was just a bit worried that i might have trained it out of him too far but in reality he's always been this way its all part of what makes me love him
