Conure Harness training

I have a harness to teach my conure with but I'm reading that most everyone here has their bird's wings long, but no harness.

I really dont want to keep his wings clipped, but I dont want him flying off either.

Should I continue to harness train or should I keep his wings trimmed?

(P.S. I hope this question doesnt upset anyone.)

The question of clipping vs not clipping is brought up many times and it always comes down to what is safest and works best for you and you bird. Either way harness training is great for clipped AND not clipped birds

Also I was wondering if anyone had any tip on getting the bird to put its head through the harness or is it just training and patients?

Most of us that don't clip keep our birds inside where they can safely fly, or harness train them for outdoor flight. I don't know of any members that free fly untethered birds (its a safety thing). I tend to leave that to 'professionals' and people that can dedicate their lives to it.

You hit the nail on the head - time and patience partnered with positive reenforcement would be the way to go. Recall training is important too if you want to take him outside, in case the worst should happen.

As Beilana said, clipping is a personal choice dictated by yours and your birds lifestyles

Well working with falcons we cant let our bird fly around the house because they have habits of flying into closed windows.

Have you ever had this problem with Parrots?

yep, but they learn very quickly to avoid them. Most of the area where my parrots fly around is windows and the avoid them. Instead of learning the hard way by crashing into them, take them up to the window and let them touch it with their beak. This will help them realise there is something there. I also recommend covering as many windows as you can with curtains and blinds.

As far as the tip from that form, He is more than comfortable with it in out play time and me having it close to his head but as soon as I touch him with it he freaks out.
