Well first off I'd like to say hi to everyone as this is my first time on the form.

Now about my Conure. He was a hand fed spoiled brat from Magnolia Bird Farm is Riverside, CA. His hatch date was April 10th, 2010. We brought him home at 115 grams on July 7th, 2010. He is now holding his weight at 108 grams. We went in for his one week check up and got the all clear.

Within two days he picked up his first noise, it sounds like a 'kiss'. So we named him Romeo.

Now after two weeks his true colors are showing. I am trying to keep his biting down, though if I stop paying attention to him he sneaks in a hard nibble. He likes putting his head against my chest and having his head scratched. He also seems to like fighting the dripping water. I found this out, because of the 110 degree days we have had lately, when I took him over by the focet and put water in my hand and cooled off his feet. He try's biting the water. Today was a little different. After he played in the water I took him outside in the sun for the first time. Then when I put fresh water in him cup and put him away, for the first time, he started playing in his water dish like it was the sink!

Anyway enough about him for now. I will try to get some more pictures of him if anyone wants to see them.

Also Im looking for others who have Dusky Conures to talk with and exchange information with on/about our birds.

Thanks for reading.

Philicia

If anyone can help I have a question about a noise my Romeo makes.

When I have him out and give him scratches, on the head and especially under the wings, he make a noise like a shrill noise.

It doesn't seem to be anger, Could it be excitement? Is he telling me he has had enough?

Iv attempted to get the noise on video but i never know when hes going to make this mystery noise.

Any Ideas why hes making such a sound?

Hey everyone I added a video of Romeo to the video section of the forum. Check it out and let me know what you think of it.

Also anyone notice my post about his weird sound? Any suggestions?

I hope someone can help me with this.

I tried once to clip the feet but drew blood and lots of fussing from Rosie. Now I take her to the vet. There are lots of people here that do clip. About the noise. Is Romeo making this noise during the scratch? Conures and great little birds but they can be noisy and nippy. If he did not bite you then I would not worry about it.

I will post a video on you video section shortly, of the noise and his following action.

Also to me he feels like he is only nibbling, but I don't know if I should still discourage that behavior.

Well I took Romeo into the vet today to get a nail trm, because he scratched the crud outta me on the way their, and a check up.
The vet said he's fine and she clad to see his weight back up after his 6 garm drop when I brought him home now hes only 2 grams under the weight I brought him home at.

Hes doing well.

And I cant keep him away from the grapes, but he will happily eat or "try" anything I give him.

Also if anyone with conures wants can you tell me your birds favorite food, so maybe I can try it with Romeo.

Well just wanted to update everyone on Romeo's"the Love Bug" well being.

Hey all,

Just wanted to say Romeo got a check up yesterday. Hes a little on the chubby side, but other than that hes doing well. He loves eating everything he can get his beak around. He seems to like dinner time, especially when I make enchiladas.

He still has this horrid habit of trying to regurgitate for my small toes. He is now saying "thank you" pretty clearly and whistles clearly. Hes also picking up some other odd noises, like he experimenting with his voice.

I have mad him a shower perch, though he wont stay on it because its not close enough to the water for him. He wants to be right under it like I am.

He is still a mega cuddle bird. I think if it were up to him he would never go back in his cage again, unless to eat or sleep.

We bought him a bed a few days ago. He has been sleeping on the floor of his cage, and because he sleeps in the kitchen and we only have one small heater in the house we wanted him off the cage floor. He has taken to the bed very quickly, but only goes in it to sleep. The breeder I got him from is amazed that it hasnt made him territorial. Im worried that he may when he starts getting hormonal. (any thoughts on this?)

Other than that everythings fine with Romeo and I.

Talk to you all later.

PS. There should be a Dusky :green1: With a gray head.
