- I'm getting a Sun Conure in a few months. It's only 2.5 weeks old at the moment and being hand raised.
Zazu, my beautiful sun, is about 7 months old now, and I think he's going through his first molt. I hear about bird getting really cranky when molting, but Zazu seems to be doing the opposite with me. He's been so cuddly.
He's lost a few small feathers, and has new ones coming in around his neck and a couple on the top of his head (not sure if they're pin feathers... what exactly are pin feathers?). I massage them for him, and he really enjoys it, and puffs up and preens himself while I do it. Then after a while he'll nest into my hair against my neck and go to sleep. It's so sweet.
However, he has become a little more "assertive" towards my boyfriend. He nips once in a while to both of us, but lately, whenever my boyfriend does anything he doesn't like, Zazu tells him off with a quick squawk.
So back to my question, is this molting/ normal for molting?
