I am planning on getting a conure in the near future. I know a cage, toys, food, bowls, perch are needed. What am after s what is not commonly listed but needed/useful. Yes I have a vet, bandaids and shooters ear protectors. Any pet I have had the books websites never list the items that make life easier and more fun. Also, suggestions on type of conure for someone who wants a cuddler, will be in an apartment, and tends to get asked to bring his animals to schools alot. Thanks

Dusky-headed Conure
May I recommend a Dusky headed or Weddells conure? So far my new conure has been wonderful. Very quite and rarely jumps off the hand.

But you may not want to listen to me. I a newbie here and this is my first parrot, but Im absolutely in love with him!

One Green Cheeked Conure.
There are a couple of groups of species of conures. The Pyrrhura group includes... Crimson-bellied Conures, Green-cheeked Conures, Maroon-bellied Conures, Painted Conures, etc... The Pyrrhura conures are the smallest and quietest of all conures. The Aratinga on the the other hand, are the loudest. Blue-crowned Conures, Golden Conures, Jenday Conures, Miltred Conures, Sun Conures, etc... For apartment living, I would suggest a Green-cheeked Conure. I may be getting a Green-cheek soon and I can't wait! They are quiet, loving, cuddly, but can be nippy. As long as you can give time and patience... you will have a great bird! Good luck! :)

10 year old Sun Conure, Browser. Coming home 6-21-10!
To the one with the birds in the pet store and the crappy conditions.Call your local animal control and if you do not have one, try the sheriff's office. If no luck there contact the SPCA nearest to where you live. As an Animal Control Officer, they are obligated to respond to every call for service. And they in turn will contact the proper authorities.. Hope this helps and good luck!
