Valentino "Tino" the Green Cheek Conure
Hi! I just recently joined this forum and I wanted to show off my little boy Valentino.

Ive only had him for around a week now and hes making excellent progress! Hes hand fed and mostly tame so I shouldnt have expected much of a problem. He already lets me pet him and knows how to step up! Hes a very fun silly bird and I have tons of stories haha

Hes only a couple of months old (hatched on valentines day) and Ive been hearing a lot of stories about hormonal teens

About what time is that going to happen?

Hi and welcome. My gcc hasn't come of age yet but it can start anytime between 8 and 14 months (normally it's around 1 year old) from my reading online. Not all birds (let alone gcc) hit puberty the same, he might be a raving horn dog, a psychotic biter (these can be helped to a greater or lesser extent) or he/she might breeze through like it was nothing.

I can only hope my little guy breezes through as he's nearly 8 months old so I'll liekly be seeing something soon besides his molting.
Bonus: With gcc at least (i don;t know if it's the same for all birds) their first molt to adulthood crosses with puberty. Which seems mean to me but I don't make the rules.

What a cutie!!! My Kyoto is about a month older than your baby, and at around 14 weeks of age he started using a lot more beak pressure on me. It's been a bit of an uphill battle, but with work you can he through anything. Kyo gets moody still but he is much better about calming down and understanding that he's hirting me when he chomps on my hand or attacjs my husband.

Just have lots of patience and try to make your interactions as positive as possible.

Good luck with your sweet baby.

Jeez I hope Tino has a good time with his puberty.. Hes pretty adaptable to his situation. In fact: when i picked him up and took him home the first thing he wanted was to play outside with me and he started eating his fruits and veggies like it was nothing

Hopefully he deals with all his future changes the same way

Thank you so much!

Tino already has the tendency to bite really hard , thankfully not aggressively... I think it has to do with the fact that he associates my hands with food, and doesnt understand what hurts...
Hopefully with time i can figure out what methods to stop biting work best for him.. Hes kind of a tough cookie when it comes to training.

I'll be honest, my Pazu did the same thing. I knew I was meant to leave him to his new surroundings for a few hours but he just wanted attention and comfort.
Most likely you little guy will be irritable, maybe a bit nippy and/or overly cuddly, so don't let puberty worry you. It'll happen, don't let any of the hormonal behaviour get you down as it'll pass and he'll get back to a norm.
Parrots have a hormonal time every year (which can be effected by high protein diets but that's besides the point for now) but the first is the biggest hit for bird and owner, the others aren't as bad as you know what to expect and the bird shouldn't be hit quite as hard by it again.
