Quinn has been home just under 2 months and he hasn't really lost any feathers...maybe a little one here or there. The last couple of days he is losing these little gray puff ball feathers. Some of them have a bit of color at the tips. All of them have white pointy quills. There are about of dozen of them in his cage right now just from this morning. I have not seen him over preening or pulling at his feathers. Sometimes when I'm petting him one or two will just fall out. He has lots of (what I'm assuming are) pin feathers which look like little spikes sticking out of his skin. Would this be a normal time for him to molt? Or could he be losing his 'baby' feathers?

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Normal molt if he's got pinnies coming in...

The gray puff feathers are his winter down being shed.

Thank you!!! I feel much better now. He has pins everywhere...even on top of his head. 99% of the ones falling out are the little puffy feathers and I'm in Southern CA so it has been heating up a bit (freezing cold today...well, freezing for CA about 55F). His chest looks all patchy grey where the puffy feathers are showing through...I'm guess as they get ready to fall out.
