ok so i had a visitor close the door on my green cheeks foot, not all the way closed but it was enough to draw blood and make him scream :( i am so upset. and the vet is closed, he can still use his foot, can walk and climb, but is constantly on one leg untill he needs to use both, there is not ALOT of blood but its alarming to see it.he has a fat toe too so its swelling. i am so angry and upset but i know it was an accident. will be more aware in future. i cleaned any poo in the cage to prevent infection, offered him warm bowl of shallow water but he just wants to rest in his hammock. is there anything else i can do since the vet is shut and its night time. im kind of freaking out a bit

Unless there is an emergancy vet, the best you can do for him now is to just let him rest, in a quiet place until morning. Wow looks painfully. Poor baby... Keep us posted.

has been a few hours now and can see the dry blood around the wound.. its bright red and still wet looking so i think the skin has grazed off the top of his foot, will take him to the vet tomorrow. :(

How's your baby doing now?

I'd take him to the vet just as soon as he opens to rule out any fractures in the foot. The vet can also accurately assess the open injury and determine the best way of action.

Good luck, and please keep us posted.

If you haven't take him to the vet.

Regardless what the vet suggests he should be in a cage without any perches and with a soft bottom (towels) to prevent him from falling and injuring anything else. Put his food and water bowls on the flow. And if you can roll a dish towel up to look like a snake then make it like a doughnut and stick in the corner so it's like a nest that he can perch on.

Best of luck!

Awww, that looks painful:( These things happen sometimes. I would absolutely run hydrogen peroxide over that if there is any blood to keep out infection until the vet can see it. Only use peroxide, other disinfectants do not dissipate and may be toxic. Poor baby, I hope the vet can get him all fixed up:)

hi everyone, thanks for the advice, i took him to the vet first thing in the morning, they gave me an oral antibiotic to give to him once a day for a week so thats not going to be fun. he will be ok, taking him back in four days to see if he is better and if he needs an x-ray. for now will just have to take it easy. thanks again!!:rainbow1: foot is swollen and has a little wound but they cleaned him up

I'm happy to see this update! The vet must have felt confident there were no fractures or he wants to wait for the swelling to go down.

Giving the antibiotics may not be as tough as you think. A lot of parrots will take it from the syringe with no problem. I hope it goes well. Please let us know how he does for the next few days.
