New member and love green cheeks

Hi I am a new member from Australia!

I have recently lost my 8 year old green Cheek Conure! I am missing him greatly!
Friends were looking after him while I was away and he got away. Not sure if they escaped or were stolen ( 3 of their birds also gone). Anyway I did a letter drop , and put up notices, and contacted RSPCA, all with no luck.
It has been 10 days. I am so lonely. I don't want a to replace Buddy, but I do need to have some company and am looking at a yellow sided gc.
Do you think it is too soon? I love Buddy, and think I can love another gc, but definitely want another colour. Buddy was green I don't want to make comparisons!!
Anyway looking forward to comments and learning more about greencheeks on this forum!

That is so sad :-( I use to have dreams about my gcc escaping or dying. I would wake up just heart broke.. but thankful it was only a dream. I dont know what I would do in your position. I know Sheldon has been a great companion and dont know what I would do without him. the house would be too quiet. Go with your heart. You'll find a bird that you can bond with just the same as Buddy, though Buddy can never be replaced.

I'm sorry for your loss, Buddy must have been a wonderful companion. Grief is different for everyone, if you feel ready to adopt another bird there is no reason you shouldn't.

Buddy an I were together for 8 years since he was 8 weeks. So we went through a lot of learning during that time. I think once I accepted my place our relationship really grew. We were great mates!!
This year I have terrible flu which has dragged on. A couple of times Buddy woke me by gently lifting my eyelids to see if I was still in there! OK it could have been that he wanted breakfast or lunch. But he could be so sweet. These times were more meaningful as we went through those times when he let his 'inner teradactol' surface. But that is all part of the course with gcc, I'm sure. But living through it is so worth the bonding that develops.
The only consolation I have now is that I know I have done everything to get Buddy back!!
My friends immediately visited neighbours, I came back a few days later as I hadn't received their text message, and I did a letterbox drop, put up posters, contacted local vets, shelters, walked around the area calling his name etc. There has been no response. His wings were cut so he couldn't have gone far, so I fear I will not see him again.,..

I am looking at a yellow sided gcc tomorrow!! Not sure if I will go ahead and get him/her
I have no intention of replacing Buddy, I couldn't do that.
Buddy was a normal gcc so I couldn't get a green. Buddy will always be loved by me and hold a special place in my heart. But a yellow sided will be a different bird, not going to be compared with Buddy.
If Buddy does come back, then I will of course be doubly blessed.
Sorry for the rant, but I think you people will understand my situation, and the loss of losing a parrot friend!

We totally understand your situation. Go visit some GCCs and go with your heart.

We lost our beloved jack Russell terrier 2 years ago (he was almost 17 years old) and I cannot have another because I can't replace him so I know what you mean about not being able to get another normal mutation.

Hi! First of all, WELCOME! I am so sorry about your loss. I have had many different "friends" furry mostly but some birds. It is almost heartbreaking. You grieve for a long time.

If you are ready, I would encourage you to go find your next "mate". You'll never replace your mate, you just move on and forge new bonds. I think that as long as your heart is open and your grief won't interfere with your new relationship, then go for it!

When you fiend your new friend, please let us know. I think it is a GREAT idea to get a yellow sided, it would be really hard to find a twin to someone you lost. That way you can start your relationship with openness, and not be so apt to apply attributes to the new guy that your old mate had. I think that will make it much easier.

Adopting a new bird in no way displaces the memory of the one you lost. In fact, I think it honors them. You loved him so much that you are willing to start over. He would understand and want that of you. When you are ready, don't hesitate to follow your heart.

You are totally correct about my not wanting to replace Buddy, I couldn't do that, but I do need to honour him and you relationship.
I did go and look at the yellow sided gcc AND brought him home. So the adventure begins!!

But I am sincerely thankful for the understanding responses I received, and sincerely appreciate your support!!
