Hi All. I have been reading up on fresh herbs that are safe to conures. I have a huge issue in that some sites say that basil and parsley are safe for conures while others say don't ever give them to conures. Please help because I have fresh parsley and basil.

Right now I'm looking at: http://caiquesite.com/foods/dangerous_human_foods.htm and they say not to give these foods to your parrot as well as Chamomile. I give my conures Chamomile tea all the time.

I would like to hear from those that feed their birds fresh herbs.

I suspect it means you shouldn't give it to them often, and not alot when you do. Garlic and ginger are like that, you shouldn't give them much and shouldnt be a regular thing due to chemical build up in the body. For ginger and garlic at least there's chemicals that build up if feed too much as act as a toxin when too much to taken in (correct me if I'm wrong anyone), but there are good minerals and vitamins in them which are recommended for good health.

I do not know if this is the same reason for basil and parsley, but i have read that a small amount of chamomile can be given to bird to help calm them (for things like night frights, vets and etc).

I give my son Chamomile almost every day. She is a plucker and very nervous bird. She came from a house where the parents bought her for their 3 very young children. Needless to say she doesn't like to be touched at all...

Thank you!! I did try to give them basil and parsley but they didn't like it. I'll try dicing it up to see if they like it that way. I have some fresh peppermint and spearmint that I'm going to try to give them.
