I recently acquired a dusky conure. Fairly young, hatch date of 7/23/15. Compared to my sun conure who I got at a very similar age this one has very strange behavior. She (for the sake of the post, not confirmed yet), does a constant small chirp, whether eating, going to sleep, being held, etc. I wish i could attachieve a recording. Never any other sound. Also wants to be as snuggled up as possible all the time. Will head for the collar of your shirt as soon as you take her out of her cage. And dives down with no part of her showing and proceeds with the odd little chirp. She is not great at climbing around or with balance. She also does not care in what way you pick her up or hold her ex: with your whole hand just picking her up from above or for her to step up, or over on her back or upside down lol. She is perfectly content to just be there, which is surprising in that I have had her such a short time, it took my other birds a couple weeks to be so trusting. She eats and drinks and eliminates fine, has had just about everything tested medically and no results that way. People who have met her just say she is a "special" bird. I hope I have explained the behavior well enough, it is just so opposite of any other bird I have had. Thanks in advance for reading my long post :)

From what I've read on them is that from what your describing of yours, sounds like a female. Of course not for certain until she matures a bit to show signs or if you do DNA sexing. Mine is a boy! He took to me instantly from day one but I haven't been around too many Dusky Conure to know if that's a trait of theirs or not, but it seems they're a good bird to have around, even with children. Mine does the little chirp too and I find it quite cute when he does it. Perhaps that's something Dusky Conure do??

My 9 year old female Dusky Conure only gives a very soft chirp when she's about to lay eggs. She has laid a total of 3 times since I had her as a baby. The first time she laid eggs was early last year.
