I was at PetCo today with my tiel and they had the cutest little GCC... it kept climbing upside down back and forth, swinging back and forth while upside down on one leg and was also dancing upside down while I was moving my tiel up and down imitating me... do pretty much ALL GCCs hang upside down in the cage? It was adorable!!

The GCC in this video is hanging upside down but my video cam in my phone rotated video. I would totally get this GCC but he is not tame (bites very hard unable to pet him or hold him she said) they also said and he is also several months old.

I firmly want one that was just weaned so that he's raised with my tiel to lessen the risk of the GCC injuring my tiel...

The GCC is adorable, what a character! Your cockatiel is a real cutie too!

Thanks for sharing!

I want to go back and see if I can hold that GCC... but it's kind of pointless since I'm too afraid to get him/her anyway since it's several months old and they said it's not tame... but how can it be "not tame" when it walks around upside down and follows me? If I walk to other side of its cage... he walks right to me each time and follows where I go...upside down of course LOL

I wish I could get a just weaned GCC now... so that he's raised wit my tiel... I'm too afraid to get one that is that "old" and they said they can barely hold him as he hasn't been handled much.

Better I not go back there today.

Not tamed! You earn trust! I would see how the little devil was on a one to one basis, then judge!
Rereading this I seemed to be coming across harshly, sorry!

If I didn't have a tiel I wouldn't mind getting a GCC that hasn't been handled much, but I do not feel it is a wise idea to get a GCC unless it has been just weaned so in a sense it would be raised with my tiel.

That GCC seems pretty friendly though if you ask me and incredibly cute. I can see why they call GCCs clowns... I stood there watching him for at least 15 min.

OMG I cannot stop thinking of that cute GCC... it was ridiculously cute how it was running upside down back and forth following me and also dancing when I started to move my tiel up and down.

Do most GCCs hang and walk upside down like that?

My JoJo was also unhandable, so I found out on a visit back to the store last week! Well, when we got him a year ago, we walked into the store, not a pet shop, but they help rehome birds. JoJo went to my daughter immediately, started crawling all over her, playing with her hair, and more or less the same with me! My avatar is from that visit! As a surprise, my daughter went back and bought her, for almost nothing! They had never seen anyone not get torn up by this little stinker an were afraid she would never find a home!
What I have is a wonderful little gal, potty trained, very well mannered, only drew blood once, (was very clear, it was my fault)!

Your GCC is really beautiful... I love the normal ones. I am curious to maybe go back tomorrow if I have time... would love to see that GCC again... but I know it is best to get one that is younger and just weaned.... only because of my tiel. I do not feel comfortable getting one unless it is a younger baby.

I think with A LOT of time, patience, and knowledge, a "Petsmart bird" could be tamed and could learn to get along with your tiel. But you are right - it would be easier to get a baby just weaned. I would feel safer doing that too! Ours was a hand-raised baby and the breeder was very dedicated to starting off good habits for her bird babies AND her customers. Now that I know how loving and bonded to their families birds can be, it makes me sad that a lot of chain store birds are so scared of hands like they are. I wish stores cared more about training employees to handle them properly and get them socialized. But I think you could work with it and it would tame :) I actually saw a GCC at Petsmart once that became very attached to the worker that cleaned the cages and fed them. It was the sweetest thing I ever saw. That bird really loved him and would squawk when he would leave. It didn't particularly care about us when we met it - just wanted the worker. It must have learned to trust him over time.

Our GCC "Babybird" likes to hang upside down sometimes too! They truly are little clowns! ...Little bossy, jealous, spoiled clowns! Lol!

Hey, what's your tiel wearing? Is that some type of birdie leash? It's adorable! We have an Aviator harness and Babybird thoroughly HATES it! We did all the positive, gradual associations to it with her and she just freaks if she sees it :( Wish I could take her out with it. But I think I'll invest in one of those birdie backpacks for her instead...

I just want to add that the conure could be "just weaned"... most go to the stores at 3 months of age, which is around the time of being fully weaned. There's no guarantee that a just weaned bird would be any better or worse with your lovely cockatiel anyways. My conure was almost two before I got my IRN, and the two are inseparable. The idea that you have to get them both young is really an old wives tale in my eyes... there's no guarantee either way.

Personally I think you should just handle the conure and see how you get along!

rosembers,
My tiel is wearing a flightsuit. I love it my tiel hate it LOL... but this enables me to bring my tiel with me when I'm running errands. He loves being out and about. He used to bite at the suit while wearing it CONSTANTLY to the point I almost gave up hope. After few months though, almost never bites the suit anymore. He flys aways frantically when he see's the suit though and knows it's going to be put on him... but once it's on him... he's fine and happy he gets to come with me :D

Dinosrawr,
The employee there told me he's several months old. I might go back today if I'm able to as I'd love to hold him. I know getting a just weaned GCC is no guarantee of course, but I can't help still feeling more comfortable with a younger just weaned GCC. I'll call them to get an exact hatch date...

I called the shop and the GCC I saw the other day is 5 months old (gender is unknown) selling for $249. I forgot to ask how long he's been there. I always feels so sorry for the birds I see at these shops! Might be able to go see him/her again later this week.

Aww! I hope you can meet him/her and spend some time to see its personality! I'll definitely check out those flightsuits!
