Blue and gold, owner passed away

Hi All,

I have had a family member pass away a few days ago (heard about it yesterday). Looks like I will be looking after and adopting his birds.

He has 2 Sun Conures (shouldn't be an issue beyond the cheekyness). He also has a Blue and gold Macaw. I don't have a lot of experience here.

He was a bit of a hermit and I'm not aware of anyone who knows the bird well, and I have not yet met it. The birds could of been alone for a few days before it was realized. His neighbour has fed it in past when he went away so they are taking care of its food needs at the moment.

Obviously the bird is going to be stressed, but what can I do to make the transition to my place easier on it?

I intend to build it an 8x2.5m aviary at my place (in the next week), and also have a cage or perch inside for it to hang out. I will have a 3x2m full height for the short term.

I will hopefully have some more information soon, however for now that is all I know. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, I am interested to see peoples experiences in similar situations.

Sorry about your loss. Will this be your first experience of owning birds? Thank you for stepping up and taking this on. This forum has many very experienced bird owners and lots of good advice, so I believe you have come to the right place! Reading through the stickys is a very good place to start to pick up lots of useful information. Have these been inside birds in the past or have they stayed out before?

Turns out I have been a bit misinformed. I went out today and it is actually just 3 sun conures. 1 pair and an older chick of theirs.

These are inside birds so wondering if I can gradually acclimate them to Sydney weather.

I would ideally like to have the pair in our 6m aviary and have their chick inside as a companion. Having dealt with Sun conures before I know they can be a handful, and are a very vocal parrot.
