My fiance just sent Pumpkin's breeder the money for a second gcc. We also sent enough to DNA sex the babies to make sure we get another boy. No chicks or egg binding problems for me. No thanks.

My new gcc will be a turquoise yellow sided. I've had an eye out for this color mutation sense before Punk. So I am pretty excited. These babies are still in the nest and too young to hamdfeed yet so I don't have any pictures yet but I'm already thinking of names of anyone has any suggestions. :)

My fiance is even going to buy my boys matching cages. Which is great because I have had Punks cage for a year and I am in love with it.

Yay! I was hanging out with my pineapple gcc today which reminded me why I love the gccs so much! She has been in a hang out with the human mood lately and following me around...I think the male gcc is whining too much lately and she needs to get away :p

No name suggestions but definitely need pics when they are sent to you! I finally got my female tiels to stop laying eggs again so I can understand the all male idea...

Tiki: Male yellow-sided green cheek conure - hatched April 10th, 2015, Gotcha date May 24, 2015
For name suggestion, I always thought if we got another we like the name "Kado" as in the Green Latern's side-kick.

Congrats. I love the turquoise yellow-sided mutation too.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prepare Pumpkin for a new bird in the house? I read about setting up the new cage and every time I feed/water/clean Pumpkins cage then i go to the new (empty) cage and mess around with it as well. It was suggested that this would get Pumpkin used to sharing my time and attention. Can anyone share their experience of getting a second conure after having a single bird for over a year? How did your first bird react? Any tips/advice?

It's recommended to quarantine new birds, even if they came from the same place unless you got the two birds within a *very* short time frame of each other from the same place.

None of my conures have ever *really* cared about each other. My first conure (RIP), Noel, would copy things my second conure, Charlie did, but other than similar coloration's, they were complete opposites in just about everything else! Three years after Noel passed on, I brought Jayde in, and Charlie has copied Jayde in more bathes (Charlie now bathes more than Jayde does...), but the two don't get along well. They only really get along in Charlie's favorite place to be, otherwise it's all beak squabbles! Jayde is a shoulder bird where-as Charlie has become an arm/lap bird, so it's mostly easy to keep them separated without even trying. However, if I'm laying down, and one decides to preen my face, the other will follow suit.

And then we have Finn. Finn was pretty much shoved into my hands and I was told to take him home. Finn is much more independent than Jayde and Charlie and he doesn't get along with anyone.

All of my conures have been rehomes though.... Noel was estimated to be 9-11 years old when I got him, but he could have been much older. I had him for just over 8 years before he passed on early 2010 due to his health issues. I've had Charlie since he was 12 years old in 2006. Jayde came to me at 3 years old in 2013. Finn was supposedly about a year old in 2015 and he's been with me for less than half a year.

All of them have also been different species of conures... And the people who had Noel and Charlie prior to me did not know what species of conures they were. (if you don't know what characteristics to look for, the species easily get confused for one another...) Now I'm not 100% sure what Finn is, as he could still color up as he matures, and with so many birds misidentified, it could be hard to say whether or not the person who last sold him knew what he was.... (someone else bought him, then his niece took him and gave him to me) but I'm leaning towards the idea that they have his species correct.

Thank you so much for your insight. I know it comes down to personality. I am excited to get to know the new bird and see how Pumpkin gets along with him.
