Hello, yesterday we purchased our female baby turquoise green cheek conure(7-8 weeks old). At home she came out of her cage alone and was super cuddly and friendly, she refused to leave my shoulder. We will leave her cage door open and she will come to us on free will. Today is day two of being here and we are giving her the option of coming to us by leaving the cage door open. She will fly to us and is starting to bite us fairly hard. On the hand, lip, nose, ear etc... Again we don't force her to be with us we leave her door open and give her the option of coming to us. I have been using the word No in a calm manner and immediately bring her back to her cage and lock the door when she bites. This has been going on all day and I'm just wondering if what I'm doing is a good method to stop this, also why do you think she's doing this. :whiteblue:

I have a young Sun and when he nips too hard, I grab his beak and say "Ah, ah, ah." This happens about 20 times throughout the day. He's getting better though. I usually try to distract him with a toy too. They love ears for some reason. There's always going to be nipping. But usually it's not meant to harm. You have to let them know when it's too hard. Gently grabbing his beak usually works for me. But he completely trusts me not to hurt him, so this doesn't freak him out or anything. First thing is to gain trust. Now, I uaually just have to say, "Ah, ah, ah," in a calm voice and he stops. :orange:

And sometimes he does it just to get attention, so when he starts cuddling up to my ear, I scratch his head and he forgets about nipping.:orange:

GCC are generally pretty nippy birds. Does she break skin or draw blood? My baby Cinnamon Turquoise GCC likes is "beaky" and the only way I learned what a nip from a bite was is that the bite was quick and it HURT. She drew blood but shes only 3 weeks old! Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that my GCC is nippy and I've heard is they're nippy by nature, and the nips hurt!

Oh and to answer your other question, that's what I do with my tiel whenever he gets aggressive and mean and what I plan to do with my GC when she comes home. It's a good tactic, it just might take a little while for her to associate biting with being put back in her cage.
