I have a yellow sided green cheek Conure named Charlie and Pineapple Conure named Lola.
So my pineapple conure is really not well, she started lying eggs ( she laid her last egg nearly 2 weeks ago and they broke she only laid 2) and she lost alot of calcium and vitamins acting dozey tired, but still eating and drinking fine, so we took her to the vets and they gave vitiam shot and antibiotic shot they gave me vitamin drops for her water, vitamin powder and calcium powder for her food. She on antibiotics in a morning though syringe which she had been on for a week she finishes it on Friday. The thing is she perked up for about 2 days and yesterday she started breathing really quickly like she can't catch get breath. I have her asleep in my hand and I can feel how fast her heart is beating. I spoke to the vets this morning and he thinks she could have a fungal infection? What's is that and how is it caused? I have an appointment with the vet in the morning. She hasn't really ate anything today nor have I seen her poop much, she also keeps falling over or losing her balance or goes to fly but can't. I'm really worried about I don't she is going to make it all she wants to do is sleep.

I'd get her to a vet NOW. I personally wouldn't wait a minute longer.

Is your vet an Avian Vet if not try locating an Avian Vet and get her there ASAP. I hope she will be alright but it sounds like she needs immediate diagnosis and treatment. My thoughts and prayers go with you for a speedy recovery for your Conure ...whats her mame ?

I hope you are getting some help with Lola. You definitely need a vet who has lots of experience with birds. That sounds so scary and sad :(

Is there anything in or around her cage that she can get to that might be poisoning her? The loss of balance is suspicious and sounds more like something neurologic is going on - anything lead? Galvanized steel? Make sure she can't get to anything like that. Also wash down her cage bars with white vinegar to get rid of any potential metal or manufacturing residue.

What color is her stool? If orangish brown that can be a sign of metal poisoning (she could still have metal poisoning even if stools look normal though). I would give her some Aviculture probiotics for immune and digestive support of good bacteria. I hope she's okay. Maybe also try some whole grain quinoa cooked and cooled.

You don't have any teflon items do you? Pots pans waffle irons Panini press some space heaters irons etc. Do you use any kind of febreeze or lysol type sprays or plug-ins or candles?

Oh, and maybe wouldn't hurt to post a picture of her cage - sometimes having another set of eyes look can help notice something that could be causing this :)

Thanks for the replies, I took her to the vets on the Thursday and he said she wasn't looking well so he gave her another antibiotic shot and another calcium one he also weighed her and she was 70g last week and this week she 76 so she's had put on weight, later on the night she perked up I went back in the following day to pick her medicine up as he thinks she has aspergillosis, he gave me fungitraxx to give her every morning with her antibiotics and today she is doing well. Her breathing has slowed down and she is back to eating.
Her stool looks fine it did look a bit watery for a few days, don't think it could be metal poisoning she has been in this cage for about a year, its one of those big corner cages, don't know how to upload picture. I don't have Teflon items or any other items like that, but I do use air freshener the spray type, should I stop using that? I will defiantly try the grain quinoa she's never had that.
I also want to make a chop with some carrots broccoli cauliflower and peppers thing like that, was also thinking kale but read it can block the calcium? And also spinach isn't good for them? Is this true? What other greens could I use instead? Thanks for all your replies I really appreciate it, I just hope she starts to get better and stays like this was really worried about her.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Glad to hear Lola is improving! Is your vet an avian specialist, and were lab tests run to confirm the diagnosis? Given Lola's symptoms, you don't want to be guessing (and I am not suggesting this is the case) and miss treating the problem effectively.

Definitely NO air fresheners. They will make your bird extremely sick and could kill her.

Aspergillosis - does she eat peanuts? That is a deadly fungus often found in peanuts. For that reason I don't feed peanuts and use almonds instead (no oil or salt just plain almonds).

I think everything in moderation if it's a safe fruit/vegetable is fine (always fresh, never use canned, and preferably organic if possible). I feed kale and occasionally spinach, but the acid in spinach can lower the bird's calcium levels so they should always have a cuttlebone (and NO GRIT for parrots, only cuddlebones because grit causes crop impaction and isn't digestible).

Fresh broccolli is great too and fun for them to eat. Peppers like you mentioned (plus the seeds, they love them), boiled egg, steamed sweet potato, plums (NO pits), cherries (NO pits), grapes (seedless), sugar snap peas (seed pod is fine), watermelon, green beans, raspberries, apples slices (no seeds) orange just occasionally because it's really acidic, fresh corn cut off the cob as a treat (NO chewing the cob either because that can be deadly). Cooked lentils and whole grain sprouted quinoa are great too. I also give my birds some plain steamed artichoke heart when we eat artichokes. And of course NO avocado, no olives, and fruit pits or seeds (such as apple cores) of any kind must always be removed. :)

I would also offer her some plain, organic yogurt (never the flavored, always plain). Great for calcium. Dairy is usually a no-no because birds are lactose intolerant. So no milk or icecream but yogurt is fine.

Oh - and Aviculture Live Avian Probiotics...I can't say enough good things about this for general wellness, immune support, and intestinal health.
