two sun conure
-Halwa (male)
-Laddu (female)
Hello everyone,

I have 2 sun conures male, HALWA and female, LADDU for 3 years , I been very linient with them as in giving them the free time to play around and letting them fly around the room, never cut their wings, etc.

Recently, the female conure made her own home inside a tv foam box outside their main cage and layed eggs, ever since then she have been hiding inside the box while halwa, the male conure has been all by him self, cannot sleep by himself out of fear and he never stays by himself, he always his companion by himself whenever he did things and now this has been an issue. Whenever he sees me, he tends to bite hard, as in almost put a hole on my right ear.

My question would be how do i control that anger, has it become wild? I was told by a friend of mine that buying conures in pair makes them wild but 1 week ago we were great and is really starting to worry me and would require any advice, be brutally honest on what i am doing wrong, because i really want to fix this. Dont really like them staying inside cage whole day.

Thanks

You are not doing anything wrong I don't think. When the female sits on eggs, the male will stay outside or near the nest box and protect it ffiercely. This is normal.

Do you know if the eggs are fertile? Yo should just leave them alone and provide them with high protein and calcium diet. Egg ffoods are great.

They sound like they are in breeding mode so just give them an area where they feel safe and peaceful. Once the hormonal changes pass over, your birds should be fine.

Like Silverlining said. Its normal behavior. The male is just protecting his mate. Even if they are both bonded to you, natural instinct will tell them to protect their eggs.

The exact same thing happened to me when my female sun conure would lay eggs and start nesting. My male would become very aggresive towards me during the entire nesting time. Sadly, their eggs were never fertile. After the nesting phase, they would become friendly again. Good luck !
