Sun Conure hatched January 2016
Quick question. When does puberty typically start in sun conures? Also while we are on the topic of puberty. Are there any different gestures that would lead a person to suspect that their conure is a boy or a girl? Obviously if an egg is laid than you have a girl, but I am more interested in knowing if for example a female would be more likely to display a different type of stimulation action than a male would. Also does anyone have any tips on how best to deal with puberty in birds? I hear that your loving bird can turn into a winged flying spawn of satan during this portion of their life cycle. Also how long does it typically last? Thanks

I'm wondering the same things about my 1y/o Dusky Conure. I was told that most of them are boys so he is likely a boy but not sure what to expect with puberty. I was told it happens around 3y/o and that in some birds they go through it without any issues and some become 'cranky'.

From what I've read doing my own modicum amount of research is that puberty can generally start anywhere from one to two years of age. I've also heard that the way your bird reacts during is almost always determined by your actions post and during. As for the majority of conures being boys I'm not so sure about that. Logically speaking it seems that there should be an equal chance of both sexes being equally abundant.
