Apple seeds?

I put cut-up apple slices in my conure's cage with a mix of other yummy fruits and veggies too. I guess I wasn't paying enough attention when I cut them as I had left some of the core on. The seeds are gone, but I can't tell if she ate them or not as I can't see them on her cage paper, but they could just be hiding. She seems fine with no change in behaviour, I contacted the vet (we don't have a specialized vain vet within 4 hours) and the vet said she will be fine. Being the paranoid person I am, I'm still not sure. I've heard many stories about apple seeds before and hope that she will be ok.

Does anyone know what behaviour would come with apple seed ingestion? The vet didn't know. All he said was "look out for unusual behaviour'' ?? I have emailed the avian vet but it was a Sunday and they haven't got back to me. Any help would be amazing.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
The alleged issue with apple seeds is they contain small amounts of cyanide, an obvious hazard. Some literature states the amount is so small as to require the consumption of large numbers of seeds. Other articles suggest just a few seeds may present danger. I avoid apple seeds from an abundance of caution, and they don't offer anything of benefit.

If I understood correctly, the vet contacted is not an avian vet. Found this link from an online information site. Please note I cannot vouch for the authenticity or accuracy of any medical advice: gray african parrot I think my bird ate a couple of seeds from

Since birds process food rapidly, the passage of an hour or two without incident should give you relief! Please let us know how things progress!!

Well, the avian vet got back to me and we going tomorrow. I don't think she ingested them, but we're going just to make sure (and for a checkup!). That article gave me some relief. She's a small bird, but there was only one or two apple seeds on there, it's not like she ate the whole apple core. I think she'll be fine, but she's under constant supervision until we get to the vet. Fingers crossed!

Here's another source. Scroll down to the bottom where there is a picture of a yellow apple cut in half. :) (or go directly to bottom of page and scroll up)

Although I don't feed apple seeds, I don't feel that one or two could be dangerous to birds.

My orange wing and red lored amazon parrots both like apples. before I knew better I would give them some of the apple seeds. My orange wing always went and ate them first. It never caused a problem but as others have stated "abundance of caution" I don't let them have apple seeds any more.
