Kermit had quite the little adventure today.

My mom and I were heading down to our old house (about 30 min away) so she could go out to lunch and I could say hi to my grandmother. I included Kermit on this expedition so he could visit my grandmother (she loves birds and watched after my previous budgie while I was away at school). He did really awesome in the car, tucked away in his sleeping cage and buckled up in the back. At first he seemed confused but the longer we drove, the more comfy he got.

I get to my grandmother's house (having dropped off my mom at lunch first) and let her oo and ahh at my precious baby :p A friend of mine, whom Kermit met yesterday, came over as well. We all hung out for a few hours and Kermit had such a lovely time.

Then my mom said she wanted to come shopping so I let Kermit hang out at my grandmother's house for a few hours while we were out. When I came back and we started driving home, I saw a larger petstore. I've been meaning to grab more toys (the pet stores near my house are so small and I've already picked over their limited supply) and since we didn't want to leave him in the car, I put his cage in the shopping cart and we had a nice 20 minutes grabbing a whole bunch of toys!

I hope the day wasn't too much for him >v> I didn't realize how ambitious it would end up at the end of it haha. I just want to make sure he's well socialized and knows how to travel well while I still have the advantage of him bein a baby <3

He seems pretty sleepy now. I think he's just worn out but I'll be watching him closely for the next hour or so just to make sure. Just thought I'd share the adventure and maybe gather some tips so the next one is even more succesful.

Aww, it sounds like you all had a great day! I bet it was good for Kermit to be oohed and awwed over, both at your Grandmother's and at the pet store. I bet he is tired after his big adventure!
I want to see his new toys!

He did enjoy it, the stinker XD According to my grandmother, the few hours he was left there he was a perfect angel. Not one scream, he just ate mostly.

He's settling down nicely tonight. He had some screams and some 'laughs' (he started immitating what we assume is laughter last week... that's been fun XD).

Will do ! I want to clean them first but I will be setting em up by this weekend I think :p There weren't too many foraging toy options, but lots of fun shreddies :D

I think parrots love these big day out kind of things, up to a point. After awhile, Salty get a bit overwhelmed and just wants to go home.

As requested, a picture of the cage with all his new toys. He's a little overwhelmed but I think he'll warm up to 'em :) I spent the better part of the day cleaning and drying them.

I don't think I'd take him for such a long adventure for a while but another visit to grandmother's might be fun. He's been so screamy today; I think he's mad that I'm not constantly with him as I was yesterday. Earlier he just wanted to be cuddled.

Not yet ;) I just put in the yellow hut (it's a cute pineapple actually... the 90's child in me that grew up on spongebob internally screamed when I saw it) in. I don't know if he'll like it, but I'm hoping he'll get more curious soon and explore. So far his favorite is the woven purse filled with paper confetti.

Update on the pineapple:

Kermit uses it now... but not the way us humans would expect logical....

What a great day for Kermit (love the name)! I love taking my fids on adventures. My vet always comments how well adjusted they are and I do think this helps with that! Great job getting him out there and being social!!

Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
My BF <Amy> just loves adventures! We did a 230 round trip visit to another forum members abode yesterday for a very nice visit, and amy loved it.
I take her out to the coffee shop with me,the pet store to visit other birdies and get 'supplies" <toys>,even have gone in to Wal-Mart,with her riding on the handle bar,Talking up a storm to whoever was willing to listen lol.

The visit the other day was her biggest adventure, and when we got home she immediately went into her house, took a couple sips of water, climbed up on to her night-night perch, tucked her head under her arm,and promptly fell asleep ;)

busy day for such a little birdie lol.

Oh goodness, love hearing about all these adventures and how you guys incorporate them into your daily rituals <3

I've seen videos of people bringing birds into supermarkets, although I was always under the impression due to health code violations that any non-service animal isn't allowed. I suppose walmart isn't just a supermarket though... anyone know for sure what places I could bring a sweet baby conure beyond petstores? :D

I'm also looking for a more convenient traveling cage for Kermit. His sleeping cage works okay for the car... but isn't very great when you need to pick 'em up. I have a small carrying case he came in from the petstore, but it's so tiny even for the little guy he is. I've heard great things about pak-o-birds though. I might have to look more into those.
