Screen for cage

Ok, so I'm having to replace the screen I'd put on my aviary because it's galvanized steel & it can cause zinc poisoning. My question is, since I'm having a hard time finding stainless steel screen, could I use aluminum? I just didn't know if conures would be able to chew through it? The spacing is much smaller than the stuff I have on it now but my gcc chewed through the more cloth-type screen that was on it when I got it.
Advice please.

From what I have read it is OK. Basically rule of thumb is if it's OK in the Kitchen it is OK for birds.

Sure if Sailboat sees this he will get technical for you LOL.

I just didn't know if someone would know whether conures are able to chew/bend/make a hole or whatever to this screen, thereby harming themselves?

Happy to hear that you're moving away from galvanized steel. Aluminum is a nice choice as a replacement. However it, as all thin metal /cloth screens find it difficult to withstand the strength of a Conures bill. Add their willingness to work endlessly on the same spot and it is only a matter of time before they get a hole large enough to cause cuts as the Parrot continues to work at the hole.

The upside is that not all Conures are overly interested in spending there day working at creating a hole in the screen. Lots of toys and material to build with can keep them busy with other more important projects.

I'm not a Conure person, but I do understand that they are more interested in building than creating holes. Supplying lots of building materials could result in a whole new problem - space! Double check that Forum and get a feel for what keeps them busy!

Thanks, yes I do agree w/you on their working @one spot & making a hole. I don't know if it's because the aviary was fairly new to them or what but my gcc worked on the one screen. Most of it was plexiglass but I wanted to have more air getting to them plus the ability to climb. I guess it won't hurt to put the aluminum screen on for now & if I'm able to find stainless steel at a later date then I can replace it.
As for toys, yes, they have toys. I do need to get more in there. They have branches they love chewing on, I made three standing perches plus the toys.

Really take a look at the 'building' side. I recall a Thread that the OP had provided tiny sticks; tooth pick and larger sizes stuff, and the OP's guy's build a huge house /nest.

I've thought about using something like that, wrench13 but I'm wondering if the openings are big enough where toes could get in there & get cut. Oh, this is a challenge. I think I'll run over to the hardware store. I'm also wondering if a heating/ac /plumbing business would have ss I could use only @a cheaper price. I'll have to see what I can figure out.

In doing a search on line, use the terms ss fabric and mesh, instead of screen.
