How do I tell a conure "no" to keep it from doing something again? I get bit sometimes and I want them to know that I don't like it. I have two and they're both green-cheek conures.

Also, is there a way to keep them quiet if they have a random chirping spree? I don't want to use food as a means of quieting them. This was after they already ate. I may have to get new toys, but as of now how can I quiet them? I just took them out so I don't know why they're so crazy right now. Nothing is going on :/

Sun Conure - Loco
Well to comment on the noise, birds are generally pretty noisy animals. Conures, specifically, are loud birds. They shouldnt be screaming all day, but every conure is going to make noise at some points, and there are usually a few times a day when they do their "flock call". My sun does his in the morning, around lunch time and then again before it gets dark. Thats natural and shouldnt necessarily be discouraged because it is part of who they are. Constant screaming on the other hand is different and can indicate boredom or sickness. I dont think thats what your referring to. If they have plenty of toys, get plenty of attention and are happy and all is good, the noise is just part of the package. As far as biting, discourage by ignoring them when they bite and rewarding them when they dont. You can also gently nudge their beak away and then walk away also.

I see you said after they eat. Thats normal and my sun does that too sometimes. After eating he is happy and likes to fly around and vocalize. Birds are just not "quiet" animals and vocalizing is their way of expressing themselves.

Oh, ye of hope and optimism and orderliness...!

The Rickeybird is flighted and fearless and does whatever he pleases. I know that's not an option for everybody but that's how it is in the Rbird's kingdom.

Discipline is really not a good direction to go with conures, they will die to hold their ground! You will only build resentment! Positive reinforcement is the way to go.

And please, please, please, NEVER resort to using a water bottle squirt gun as discipline!

Green Cheeked Conure called JellyBean
My conure JellyBean rules the house! I love it... not boldness but flying, talking, playing... I agree if it is screeching, then something must be done.. but chatter and chirruping is good - I personally love his moments of being a noisy rambunctious little ball of blue and green..

How bad is the noise???

Blue Fronted Amazon, Cookie..Sun Conure..lil Booger (RIP) Have owned Parakeets, lovebirds, cockatiels, cockatoos, pocket parrot, and quakers.
When ishe getting too noisy? Most birds... conures included will start a racket when you leave the room, or perhaps just get to far away from them. Ive managed to keep racket to a minimum by simply teaching them what to expect from me. When I leave the room or walk out of the house for a bit I tell my birds "be right back"...If Im gonna leave for a while I tell them "Bye bye".. Somedays this ole fart needs a nap.. use to be near impossble.. but I tell them "daddys going nite nite" (they know what nite nite means).. and the do not even start the racket... which I call a "location call". It takes a lil time for them to understand but trust me... keep words and phrases simple and they DO understand. Still.. usually in the evenings just around sundown, my lil SC Booger and BFA Cookie will get side by side for a squawk contest. Sometimes wifey and I join in with my flock...singing Row Row Row your boat...which really seems to amuse them.
Discipline... hmmm.. now that's another thing entirely. What has worked for me over the past 35 years or so was a combination of touch/gesture/verbal communication. Small bird like that... briefly restrain him for a moment (gently of course) wag a finger at him and say NO. A couple times doing that all u need to do is wag the finger and say no. I can stop my Amazon from eating the TV remote... or chewing an electric cord or something from across the room with a simple NO/finger wag combo. Oh and never yell at em... Lots of birds LOVE drama and will try to make YOU react for their own amusement.

None. My wife has one too many. Kidding!
Indeed, whatever you do, don't yell. You may hear it coming back from the bird and the wife will know you've been yelling at her parrot when she wasn't around.

Skittles is free flighted and does have the run of the apt and is able to do as he pleases for the most part. However, I live in an apt so I have to keep noise to a minimum. He will screech after waking up, when its time to go to sleep, when he senses a threat or danger or when he wants something in particular and wants to get my attention.

But if he is persistently screeching, I put him back in his cage and if need be, cover the cage for a short time and he usually chills out. As for going where he shouldn't- he likes to test limits but for the most part he is obedient to my commands. He and I have a good system in place.

Point is, you can let your bird have an enormous amount of freedom without losing control of the situation- you just have to make sure your bird understands that you are in charge.

I love when Sprinkles and the parakeets are chirping together. once a day around 12 noon Sprinkles will have a little screaming fit. I always ignore it and he stopes. when he is quite he gets attention. I NEVER go to him when he is being loud. He learned that being quite gets him what he wants. I never tell him to stop screaming you should never yell back at a bird. They are not dogs. noise is just part of having a bird. If you wanted a silent pet you should get a ferret or gecko. My Geckos are so quite.
