Grumpy Stephen

With the addition of the Macaw to the house, my little Stephen seems a bit grumpy.

I think a large part is that his playstand has been taken over. This will be fixed soon. I have a very busy work schedule so getting to the store for a Macaw appropriate stand has not happened but will this week.

Mainly, Stephen's behavior is to fly away from anyone who tries to pick him up. Me or my friend (his girlfriend.) He still loves to cuddle but if we try to get him to step up he frequently resorts to flying away.

Mostly it's the flying away and a general grumpiness. I know I should expect some transitional attitude. He's almost 4 and has been an only bird his whole life. Suddenly there's this giant, LOUD bird in his house on HIS play stand.

Both birds are out of their cages at the same time but only with lots of supervision and they're not allowed to be near enough to each other that anyone (Stephen) gets hurt. Romeo goes to bed first so Stephen gets lots of one on one time with me.

But any advice or thoughts on how to proceed? Or more importantly, anything to watch out for?

Yeah... but he still gets out of his cage first, goes in last, gets to go on walks with me and the dog. He gets treats first AND he's allowed on my shoulder!

He's starting to settle down. Still flies away from me a lot when I try to pick him up... but I'm finding a quick back turn stops that fairly quick.

I think he will be fine, just a little off put like an only child with a new sibling. I would just take some extra steps to show him that hes important, and also maybe let him be with you when you interact with Romeo so he feels he is a part of it and also so he sees Romeo is part of the flock too, as long as he wont try to attack or do anything that can cause him to get hurt obviously.
