Thoth - Black Capped Conure
Well seems i have made quite a bit of progress. it wasn't even 2 weeks ago i was picking this little bird out of a bin of conures in a shoddy pet store. Now he is eating out of my hand and sitting on my lap top trying to talk to me (which is what he is doing now trying to eat my macbook screen). He only likes to snuggle for about 10min before getting a little testy. I now have a cage in every room of the house and seems to love them all.

He throws little tantrums when i leave for work and gives me a nip when i get back telling me not to leave him again. He will regurgitate on my hand or his favorite toys. My wife and i are trying to fix a room up just for him to play around in.

Little Thoth loves taking baths but seems to only do it when im around to watch after him. I remember when i was singing in the shower and my wife was playing with him in the bed room. He hopped of her hand and ran in hopped up plopped into the shower and proceeded to roll around squeaking and chirping.

Heres a bad phone picture of the little scamp.

Any ideas to help him start talking? I read him a childs popup book every night before bed and he trys to move his beak while im talking.

Wow that was a wonderful read! You sure are doing such a good job, making Thoth part of the family and not just keeping him as a bird in the house! 100 Starts to you!

Ant has got a AG that talks and talks and here is a post that she posted on another thread that might help you with the talking part.

I am by no means an expert, you don't have to be to teach a bird to talk

It's so easy to teach your bird to talk

Start off saying simple words

hello love you Mishka (your birds name) bye bye

Continue saying this to the bird daily, along with your everyday conversation, they listen to EVERYTHING we say, and have the ability to learn all the time.

Make a cd with your voice saying the words saying
hello love you Mishka
bye bye

Play it for the bird, saying it along with the cd. If you going out, (for as short while) leave the cd playing. When returning, spend 5 minutes with your bird, saying the words.
At night sit with the bird on your lap, saying the words that are on the cd, adding more words, at a slow pace.

When your birds begins to say the words, add more onto the cd

hello love you
Mishka hello mommy love you mommy bye bye

When your bird is able to say these few words, just keep adding onto the cd.
Hello Sean I love you Sean Mishka loves Steven
I love you Steven

Talk to your bird, saying who does Mishka love? Mishka loves Sean
Ask the question and answer it as well in the beginning, saying it along with the bird. You will be surprised how quickly they catch on.

Keep a file with the words you are teaching the bird, add the new ones on each time. Carefully selecting words and sentences, which will create an amazing vocabulary for your bird.

Good luck

Here is another thread with videos of the birds talking that you might enjoy!;)

hehe! What wonderful pics! He's GORGEOUS!

Cal started talking by moving her beak when I spoke.

Now, a few weeks on because she's in the shop with us during the day she says: Hello & Thankyou which makes us giggle. Also my laugh and because I say this to her and Dave and the other furry family members about a billion times a day - I love you.
A little quirk that she does when she feels like it is: Cally, what do the doggies say? She replies: Woof woof. But she must be in the mood ;)

The other day she said "Thankyou, I love you" to the back of a retreating customer who had come to admire her.

What a FLIRT!

I admit, with her being a conure I expected little, if any talking. I think she must have got the chatterbox affliction from somewhere....I can't think how! :D
