Determination

Dusty does not like men.
There are only two guys that i know of that dusty actually likes. One is my ex and the other is a guy i went to school with.
Well...This past weekend, my boyfriend met Dusty for the first time ever. He was excited to meet Dusty. He has only hear me for weeks talk about my little bundle of joy.

unfortunately...my boyfriend is not a guy Dusty has taken a liking too >.<
Though I feel like there is potential for Dusty to like him. (wishful thinking?).
Normally if Dusty does not like someone he will attack fingers when that person tries to get him to step up or attack the person if i try to place Dusty on them. Well Dusty bit me and tried to attack my boyfriend when i tried to let him step up on to my boyfriends finger. However dusty was okay if i put him on my boyfriend's shoulder. He would even chatter with my boyfriend.

My boyfriend has asked me what Dusty's favorite foods are and has told me that he would like Dusty to like him because Dusty is such a big part of my life. He said that he plans on bringing Dusty's favorite fruits and veggies the next time he comes to my house and try to offer them to Dusty.

I find this relationship to be promising. Never has anyone i've dated taken an interest in dusty. My ex's couldn't stand Dusty. But my boyfriend is fascinated by him.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how my boyfriend may be able to win Dusty's Trust over?

Food! Maybe you could get him to do some of the daily husbandry things?

Excellent question. I think your boyfriend is on the right track bringing all the treats that Dusty likes. Mabye something different like pop corn may peek the birds interest. I would tell the friend not to wear aftershave. Birds can smell and if someone smells different it could set bird off. You could also have your boyfriend study up on conures in general and on the bonding process. I hope it works out for you. good luck!!

My boyfriend does not live with me due to the fact that i go away to school. Dusty stays with my parents during this time. My boyfriend has suggested to my parents the idea of him coming over my house a few times a week to work with Dusty.

He does wear aftershave so I will suggest that he does not wear it while working with Dusty.

That's so sweet of your boyfriend!! Obviously he wants to love (and be loved by) the things that make you so happy, and it's wonderful he's putting forth such effort!! Hopefully it won't be in vain and Dusty will come to adore him - sounds like your boyfriend is going to do everything in his power to make that a reality!!

Just remind your bf how long it took for dusky to bond with you even with bribary it will still take time for dusky to bond with him

Aw your boyfriend is sweet It's definitely a plus having a boyfriend who is interested in the things that make you happy! Sounds like he's on the right track just let him know not to get too discouraged if the bonding doesn't happen right away

He also shouldn't get discouraged if Dusky doesn't like him right away either.

I can't really add much to the great advice you've been given except to say that Cal is REALLY affected by smell.

Maybe if you have a top or something of yours that would fit him (a non girly one, haha) then he could wear that? Just for the time he's with Dusty?

That is an interesting idea! Rather try it the other way around, wear one of your boyfriends shirts around Dusty and then let him put it on without washing it. It might help because Dusty is still unfamiliar with him.

One thing I can however say is that if my girl does not like somebody then nobody and nothing in the world can change her mind. If that does happen then you just need to live around it.

I have let Him know not to get discouraged if Dusty chooses to still not trust him in the end. I reminded him that dusty has not liked my Brother or my dad since I brought him home four years ago. So he may or may not bond with him.

Though dusty is okay sitting on him, just not being held by him. I see that as promising. Generally if he doesnt like someone he doesnt want to be anywhere near them without biting him.

For now we are going to work with trying to see if we can get Dusty to trust him. Its hard being that I'm away at School. My mom who Dusty loves to be with, has agreed to help my boyfriend while i am away.
