Sun Conure flapping wings and very energetic an hour before bed

Hi!

I am a new Sun Conure owner of a lovely little 4 month old girl named Molly. She is a very happy girl most of the time and loves lots of cuddle time and is very playful. I was wondering about something she does nightly and I have not seen an answer in any books or forums so far. About an hour before bed (she goes to bed at 8pm) she starts screeching for a few minutes but then she stops and gets very very excited. Running from one shoulder to another and looking around a lot. She also holds onto my shirt and flaps her wings about 6 or 7 times. She seems happy when doing this and I would normally just think she is happy and having fun but it's at the same time every night.My fiance only sees her off to bed about 3 nights a week and is at work the other nights so I wonder if she is trying to call in her "flock" and she is looking around for him before bed. Or maybe she just is so happy to have had a nice day that she flaps and makes noises? Or maybe she just wants me to put her to sleep earlier and this is her way of telling me? Maybe you guys can lend some insight into her behavior! Thanks.

What time does the sun go down? What time do the outside birds do their evening calls?

Right now the sun goes down around 5pm and the outside birds call at like 4:30pm but she does this at about 7:15 or 7:30 and shows no signs of being tired before then. When we 1st got her she would just go to her sleeping fuzzy hut and get in and we knew it was bedtime which was around 8pm so we just made that her bedtime. She wakes up around 8:30am and that is what time the house gets noisy so it's actually perfect.

Anyone else have any idea?

Is she away from her cage when doing this? if so it probably means "put me to bed" My alex who never comes to me runs up my arm and chases me if I move away untill i put her back in the cage @6-8pm

Yes she is always out when she does this!

Our Sun Sebastian always starts screeching at bed time.. nearly on the minute which I always thought was pretty impressive. Sounds a bit like the same.. if it's always the same time of day.

Thanks. I'm glad to finally know what it is. I'll just pay attention to see if she wants to go to bed a bit earlier.

Skittles will get VERY vocal in the evenings between 7p-8p. He also flies around to different places. I think it all has to do with the time of night. For Skittles, that hour is 'bedtime' hour. While sometimes he stays up til 8:30p, he normally goes to bed during that hour. I have not set time to put him to bed because he lets me know when he wants to go to bed by doing his 'flight inspection' and 'flock calls'. That's when I put him to bed.

Yeah she seems to be doing the exact same thing. Maybe they just need to get out extra energy right before bed? It's super cute though right?

Sometimes. But when you are in the middle of watching a program and your fid is demanding to go to bed right away and won't wait til a commercial, not so cute.

Spezi, our SC is so schedule oriented that I can pretty much set a clock by him. We "open his curtain(uncover him)" about 730 am every day. He plays in his cage quietly until about
11. After that the screeching starts until he goes on his play area in the bay window. He's happy to play there most of the afternoon but by 2 he starts wanting me to play with him. He goes thru all the normal Conure shenanigans until about 4. After that he's grumpy and can't decide between his perches, my shoulder or the tree. By 6 he's biting me, running from shoulder to shoulder, nip my ears, bite my glasses but what he wants is to go home. He's got a fuzzy tent with his warmer and he wants his "alone time." By 7 he wants his curtain closed and he's quiet until next morning.
He goes into sensory overload around 4 and he's like a tired toddler. He won't give in to a nap or go to bed until it's "time." Stubborn little rainbow chicken!!

Skittles is the EXACT same way with his routine. He gets all hyper in the late afternoon/early evening and then its bedtime when he says so- I have no say in the matter.

My fiance wishes Molly will stay up later because he wants to see her after work (he works in NYC and we live in NJ) and sometimes she is in bed right before he gets home. Her bedtime is 8pm and she can't forget it...We have a clock near her so perhaps she knows the time lol. She gets a little crazy in the afternoon/evening. She lifts her wings and looks around a lot, she also makes a different noise than she does any other time of the day and starts biting with strong but not painful bites. My fiance misses her so much during the week...Poor guy. It's like having a baby sort of but better because she has feathers and a beak. I love her! Best decision we ever made! I have an 11 year old son too so I have a human kid also. Haha!

Yep, I agree he wants to go to bed. All of my birds start getting excited around that time as well. They all have sleeping cages in my bedroom upstairs, and I'm generally downstairs watching a movie or playing guitar at that time, so when they all suddenly get loud and start flapping around I head upstairs and they usually all follow. Occasionally one will not be ready for bed and will not follow, so I'll let them out with me a while longer. Even my 7 pet budgies (who sleep in their very large cage that is downstairs, they only have the one cage unlike the 4 larger birds) will start getting extremely loud all of a sudden, and that's my cue to cover them.
