Sun Conure threw up for first time.

Hey guys new to the forums, so apologies if it's improper to make a new thread when asking questions. My baby Sun Conure Celty "female" just did the head bobbing thing and threw up some pasta I had given her as a small treat while washing dishes about an hour ago. I took her downstair to lift weights with me, and as soon as she get on her perch she starts doing it. Never seen it before, and I have given her very small bits of spaghetti in the past. What worries me is she had been up in the old family tree I just received a few days ago, but only for like 5 minutes "I completely forgot to check to see if it was safe to chew on!!" I am currently trying to find out what kind of Ficus tree it is, so I am freaked out that maybe she got poisoned slightly. She is only 10 months old, so I wouldn't think it would be a hormonal affection thing...though we are very close lol.

Is she sick from eating, sick from the tree, or just Hormonal? It smelled kinda nasty too when I got close to wipe her off "she flicked it all over her head" She is currently eating her Roudybush pellets and seems fine...

The experience I have with birds throwing up.
When I had a truly sick bird and it was throwing up it did so several times.
I have had one of my amazons throw up just once and stop. It did not continue to throw up and recovered just fine.

If you want my guess and keep in mind it is just a guess I think is simply chocked on the pasta.
If the bird acts at all unusual be safe and take it to the vet.

Also... my Patagonian regurgitated and head-bobbed when he was a chick under about 12 months of age... I THINK he was solicitating feeding or attention... kinda a leftover baby-thang?

Thanks for the replies guys. She does seem fine, so choking could very well have been the issue. I'll keep an eye on her.

Skittles regurgitates a LOT. I haven mentioned this to the vet before and she says he is just being "amorous". lol. In other words, he's horny. lol.

Regardless of whatever he hocks up, it always smells like raw cake mix. lol. The smell doesn't bother me (obviously) but watching him eat it does. GROSS! So I just turn my head.

I would just limit the carbs to rare treats. What do you normally feed her? Is she on a pellet diet? If not, you may want to consider one- its the ideal option. There are a variety of pellets to choose from though some are better than others.

pasta swells and my birds tend to carry food around in their beaks at times.
maybe it swelled enough to choke before swallowing completely

Yes as been mentioned watch to see if it is regurgitation or actually being sick?

If you chop or process the pasta she wont be able to scoff so much in one go. Is it wholewheat pasta?

Thanks for all the replies guys. Yes she is on a pellet died. Mainly Roudybush, and Zuupreme. It was regularly "white?" pasta, and only like half and inch of it fully cooked. she was holding it in her foot and nibbling it, not swallowing it whole. She didn't regurgitate until an hour later when I took her down stair to lift weights.

If it was an hour later, I highly doubt it was the pasta. It was either something else or hormones.

My sun conure, Molly does that...She regurgitates sometimes or makes the head bobbing motion but nothing comes up most of the time but when it does it smells like almond cake. She is only 5 months old so I'm not sure it's a sexual thing at her age but maybe it is. Yesterday, she really really likes one fingernail I got painted as a test at the mall and went crazy regurgitating at it for 5 minutes, it was funny and cute. Maybe someone can help me as well...If she is only 5 months old is it hormones?

I'm thinking it is just something our conures do when they are excited. Your bird wasn't in anything harmful, so i highly doubt she was sick. My bird Celty was in a tree I found out is on the toxic list prior to regurgitating, so I have been looking into that. But I think both our birds are fine.

My Conure likes silver fingernails and yours likes when you weight lift. ;-P lol
