I have had peanut a month now... I think... wait was it 3 or 4 weeks? anyways... I cannot get him to play with ANYTHING. His toys remain untouched inside and outside his cage. What the crap?

This has been consistent all along, not just a new thing, right? If new... vet time!

I've known of a few birds who just aren't into toys. He certainly seems to think YOU'RE a great toy!

Is there a co-conspirator you could enlist? You and C-C play with the toy, make all kinds of happy noises, take it from one another, every now and then offer it to peanut briefly but take it back if he doesn't move quickly and play with it some more so he thinks he is missing out on something.

this has been consistant since I got him. I have Jazz (cockatiel) that plays on their perch they like to sit on while out of their cage. I would have thought he would have caught interest from watching jazz play with the many toys available but he just hangs out.

Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
It just depends on the birdie I think. Amy has a ton of toys, but doesn't play with them much either. Once in a while,if I walk up to her house, she'll get all excited, and grab something and chew on it while I talk to her.
At times, when she is on her play top, she'll pick up a t.p. roll and rip it a part.
BB has a bunch of toys also, and many a time I can hear him growling and chattering away, only to see him beating the crud out of whatever he has in front of him..strange creatures these fluffy things are

I went through many toys that Skittles wouldn't touch or go near.

It's really a process of elimination based solely on the particular bird. You have to experiment to find out what kind of toys they like and then build from there.

Often times, just 'safe' things around the house provide them with hours of entertainment as well.

I'd suggest trying a few difference types of toys and seeing how he responds to each.

A side note, sun conures are MAJOR chewers so I'd start there- they LOVE to chew up things and destroy them. Cockatiels, in my experience, tiels are not particularly destructive or major chewers. (I've had many tiels over the years but Skitty is my first conure)

Conures, tiels and budgies are all completely different species of bird so its not uncommon that they don't share the same interests. For example, in my experience, tiels love mirrors and shiny things while conures like chew toys and things that make noise. Of course this is all generalization and may or may not apply in this case, but its a possibility anyways.

I find that sometimes the birds don't want to play with the toys.....until I am making one for them, then they "help".

Does he seem leery of the toys? If so, put the toy in view of the cage for a day or two before putting it inside.
Keep trying different types of toys - shred, chew, cuddle, active, hideouts. Different materials - bells, plastic, wood, paper, metal. Sometimes lighter or harder woods. Quiet vs. noisy. Up high, down low, on the floor.
Keep trying.

My green cheek conure, my Quaker parrot, my Senegal parrot, and all of my 7 budgies love toys, doesn't matter what they are, they play all day long and are very good at entertaining themselves. My cockatiel on the other hand has never touched a single toy to the best of my knowledge. They have multiple large T-stands with toys hanging all over them as well as a huge PVC bird gym that has some really cool, large wood toys, puzzle toys, foraging toys, and even a bunch of the cheap, plastic budgie toys (my green cheek loves these), and they all love everything except for my cockatiel. She's content to just sit on top of her cage or on the perch she has on the outside of it and watch everyone else playing. I've tried everything, she just doesn't get it, or she gets it but doesn't care. I guess some birds are just like that.
