Good luck, that's the right call, that doesn't look good, especially if he seems weak, God forbid he has a head injury...Keep us updated.

Poor Peanut, hope this is nothing serious. Good call to see the vet. Do I recall you found an avian vet?

Please keep us posted when you are able.

I'm really hoping the silence from the OP is just being busy and not a sign of something terrible.

Sorry guys, things are well, I just hadn't had time to post. He did great at the vet, he did a physical exam in front of me which I liked, but had to take him in the back to check his eyes and stuff. He said there's no neurological issues as his reflexes and stuff are normal. His foot is swollen but he didn't feel anything was broken. They gave me metacam or whatever its called and said he should stay in his cage for a few days to get to feeling better. The marks on his head looked like they were scabbing fine and should heal with no problems. He recommended I place a heating pad in the cage and cover it so it stays warmer than normal so I got that set up for him.

someone asked if I found an avian vet... as far as I know it's an avian vet they said they have two on staff. They seem knowledgeable. It's called Broadmoor here in Cheyenne.

Here's a pic at the vet. he was happy to sit quietly and eat his peanut as long as he was as close to me as possible lol

I'm glad he did well and they didn't feel he had any neurological issues...Is he still weak or uncoordinated at all? Keep him quiet and make sure he is very warm and gets lots of rest. Keep a very close eye on him and monitor his behavior. If he shows any signs of balance issues, staggering when he walks, shaking his head a lot, etc. or vomits at all get him back to the avian vet ASAP. Sometimes head injuries, especially concussions and/or brain bleeds, can seemingly disappear and then suddenly come back with a vengeance!

I'm glad Peanut appears to have nothing more than minor injuries. Keep an eye on him and don't hesitate to call/visit the vet if something changes.

thanks guys! I have been watching him and I think his balance is fine, it's just his grip is weak with one of his feet. So he flaps his wings like a crazy man even though I've got him. He still falls a lot but I've been keeping him in his cage to reduce this and he has a heating pad. He seems happy, not being aggressive or defensive or anything. I hope his grip returns soon. and his feathers, he's broken nearly every tail feather with his crazy flapping and falling!

Peanut had an accident. The vet thought he should have learned to glide instead of falling like a brick and two days ago we were moving and I had him and jazz on their perch by the window, peanut fell off, slammed into the baseboard heater and fatally injured himself. I ran to him and he had a short seizure of some sort then passed away. I was running to the car to get him help but it was too late. I cried and cried and cried. I'm heartbroken. I miss him immensely!

Oh Yums, I'm so sorry to read this. Sounds like Peanut had some intractable health problems. Lots of inbreeding, poor gene management by careless breeders, or just an internal injury that got worse. Having an explanation doesn't make it any less sorrowful, though. He sure was an adorable little bit of sunshine.
