DNA sexing

Hi, i saw an ad in bird talk for dna sexing so i went on the website: Avian Services Center: DNA sexing and disease testing for all species of birds. and ordered the free test kit. Now what it is, if you dont know. is it says to pluck 5-6 feathers and you put them in a small zip lock fill out a sheet and send it in with payment.
will it hurt if i pluck chi chi's feathers?

Hi Erik, I've used Avian Biotech for many years, their very quick and very reliable, I've even helped a few members on here with getting their birds DNA sexed through them, the biggest wait is usually waiting for them to send you the test kit, I prefer using the blood test versus the feather test, it takes clipping a toenail just the slightest bit more than usual and collecting a few drops onto a card the size of a business card, putting it in an evelope and sending it back to them, they test M-F so depending where you live and when you send it in you could get the results in just a few days

You only need about a "pea sized" amount of blood on the card they supply you with. Bobby helped me with my bird's DNA sexing. Came out, clipped him, collected the droplets of blood onto the card and everything! My baby didn't even make a peep, didn't jerk away, NOTHING! Bobby did a great job at keeping the pain level down to a minimum, in fact, I don't even think Maui experienced an ounce of pain.

I mailed it on a Tuesday and got my results emailed to me on that same Friday. AVIAN BIOTECH, GREAT, FAST and REASONABLY INEXPENSIVE, only $19.50, per bird you'd like to have sexed.

I've. Used avianboitech also and had my results emailed to me in as few as 3 or 4 days. I. Even had the shock of finding out my friends 20 + yr old CAG whom was presumed a male being a hen. She has sinced layed some eggs proveing them accurate. For less then $25 it is well worth it to know for sure.

I also just sent a drop of blood. Much less traumatic for both or FID & you!

Let us know what you find out. Its so much better when you know for sure weather you have a boy or girl.
