Hello,
I'm looking for some knowledgeable facts about Red Factor Sun Conures. I've asked around a lot but not quite sure I've run into any Red Factor experts.... Even so, all input is very very welcome and appreciated!
I own a 4 month old Red Factor Sun Conure, (from a very reliable breeder) but he seems to me to be a bit more on the orange side. I know that when suns are young they have green and grow into thier yellow or red for the red factors. However, I have seen other red factor babies and they seemed to be a bit more red than mine... His entire head is a red orange but not a strong RED, its more orange... I will love him no matter what, but I am very interested in the specifics of the color of these beatuiful birds. Is the coloring just a gradual reddening with age? Should he be red from the beginning? Are they all different? If anyone has any pictures and or experience please relay that... Thanks in advance... AP

Heres the little guy...

Your baby is beautiful =) I dont know much about the red factors but looked it up when I saw my first red factor sun baby.
. I'm not sure, but I would imagine the intensity of the red would be based off how much red both the parents have, if both did.

this is a link to a page that had red factor info on it from someones posts in another forum when I first heard of it and looked for info. May help lead you to some answers

Hiya, congrats on your new baby!

Cal is a sun conure and you will see the difference between her red head and your babies. She is 6months old.

Both her parents were very vivid red and I expect as she's grows she'll inherit a bit more. Currently it is her yellow coming through(head and back). I know that in her case, the red will not REALLY go vibrant until she is maybe even a couple of years old.

This is what I found in website for Red Factor Sun Conures:

Quote
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: Red factor sun conure are completely red since baby. The whole front body is red not orange and the head is red as well. They are not like a regular sun conure with yellow and orange spots. The best way to identify a red factor from a regular sun is if the bird have a red spot or reddish on the wings not mater if is baby or adult. Many ads and breeders sell red factor sun conure many of those ads have normal sun conure but they look orange not red factor mutations. When they get older they look very orange but not really red. If you put the real red factor and the regular sun you will notice the difference. There is another way to identify if it is a real red factor. You need to ask the breeder to send you a picture of their parents. They always going to pair a regular sun with a red factor and is because the generic is considered more healthy winch is true.

I tried clicking that link above and my antivirus blocked it. I don't know if a mod can/will delete it or not. Just figured I would let someone know that the site may be malicious.
