Green cheek conure - Sydney (Syd) Hatched 2/2017
Syd was playing just by me and suddenly I realised that he had what looks like a long tail feather in his beak. It looked as if he had pulled it out.

He has been moulting little feathers for a couple of weeks and I have been helping him preen - not very expertly, but he is very patient with me - but this is the first big one.

Does that mean he has already grown the replacement or should I see it coming?

Will you keep it? Daft I know but I keep all Plums major feathers from his moults.

I doubt it was in fact pulled but I think they must feel when one is working loose and go in to help it on its way. Plum treats his like it is a foreign body LOL.

I was told many years ago not to let parrots play with plucked or fallen feathers. It gets them too used to the idea that feathers are fun toys. As a result, Salty (and Max and Winston) is never allowed to hold onto a feather long enough to get attached to it.

Mmm that makes sense. He dropped it on the floor almost immediately and I binned it.
