Wing clip to train then grow feathers out?

I have a young green cheek conure who's almost 3 months old, and I have him for a week now. He is flying around a lot through my apartment. I do train him to step up, and to come fly back to me etc, but he does fly somewhere else whenever he wants to. Also he bites quite often. I think he's just beaky, and I'm teaching him my boundaries. This is quite difficult though because when he bites I say a firm 'no' but he doesn't always respond, and then it really starts bleeding. I so also try the 'put him down and walk away' method but that's difficult because he immediately flies back to me.

I have been to my avian vet, they specialize in parrots, today to talk about his biting. And although I do want to keep Echo, my conure, flighted, they say it might be good to just have a wing clip/trim once, in order to train him. Because he might be a bit too much in control now. And then grow his fathers out again while I train him properly.

What do you all think about this? To just get him a wing clip once to be able to properly train him and then grow his feathers out again?

I really want to keep him flighted in general, I also have a flight harness for him.

If you are really interested in clipping Primary Wing Feathers, please know that by limiting the number of feathers and/or which feather(s) are cut, one can control the distance of flight, gained height and/or amount of gliding. When training, I look to control distance and height gained.

A well trained Avian Vet Tech can by knowing the Species, evaluation of the Parrot and the results caused by the loss of each Feather will know the results.

The local Pet Store and/or Big Box Pet Store wouldn't have a clue.

Do it right and the effect can be as short as a couple of weeks. Screw-it-up and it could be a very long year plus!

SailBoat is 100% correct. My conure I literally trim him to the 1/8 of an inch to control his ability. And I test him weekly.

I like him able to get about a foot up on the initial flight (in a panic) but then nothing but gradual down after that. Max carry from the shoulder is about 8 feet linearly. If he falls off the top of the staircase balcony he just flaps down to gentle landing. You DO NOT want to cut to much of the flight feathers back or you get a feathered rock that could hurt himself. Find someone like a vet or another owner that knows what he's doing to learn.

My avian vet is specialized in parrots and they also know a lot about clipping wings. So I will let them do it. They told me they wanted to give him a clip so that he can't gain a lot of hight, but he won't fall down fast. He will be able to gradually go down.
