I want to get another bird

Currently, I own 1 bird, my sun conure. I really want to get another bird but I don't know if I should mainly because I don't want to make Sunny feel like I don't love him? (does that happen??) I still live at home so it all depends on how my parents think about me getting another bird, but if they say yes would it be okay? My mom mainly thinks that I shouldn't because she thinks it will break Sunny's heart and make him depressed because ALL the attention won't be on him. (but trust me, I think he'll be okay cuz throughout the day he leaves me to go hang out with my sisters) Also, I'm thinking about getting a macaw
but I'm worried the size difference will be a problem?? I also want Sunny and my new bird to get along. When I got Sunny he was in a cage filled with other sun conures in a room filled with other birds. Sunny is now 4.

So this whole thing was to get other peoples opinions on what they think about me getting a new bird (a macaw). I might get one thats 2 years old or one thats 20 years old.


EDIT: I found a macaw that is 2 years old but I don't know if I can adopt him. Also, I might get another conure or smaller bird.

I find myself in quite a similar predicament myself. I've never been a 'one-bird' person. Aside from the first year or so I had my first bird (I was only 11) I've never been without more than one bird until Skittles. He's been my only bird since Peaches passed away near the end of 2015.

If Sunny has other people who pay a lot of attention to him too, he is more likely to be accepting of a new bird than if it were just you and him all the time (like it is with me and Skittles). But I'm not sure how he'd react to a larger bird like a macaw.

So I would however, caution you regarding a macaw. I don't know how that would work (or if it would) especially with an older macaw (if you don't know its entire history).

I think a safer route would be to go with another conure if you want another bird. Thats just my two cents.

I go back-and-forth same thought! Just understand Sunny would absolutely feel threatened if you brought another baby into the house it would all depend on how you presented it to him! You have to make it absolutely clear to Sunny, he is still the leader of the flock and everything else is up to him to set. And he is still your first love!

I want to get another bird too but Ollie is just suck a perfect bird and I'm scared it will make his temperament change and he'll get jealous. Also I'm worried the new bird will teach Ollie bad habits or he will start to be louder because he talks to new bird (he's very quiet for a Sun Conure). We also like to travel with Ollie and having two birds would seem like much more of a challenge. Another thing I worry about is if the new bird will bond with Ollie instead of me or if Ollie will drop me for the new bird or if the new bird wants to bond with Ollie but he hates the new bird or if the new bird will cause Ollie to be sexually frustrated. Right now his hormones are in control because I make sure I don't encourage that behavior. So yeah.... reasons I'm not getting another bird anytime soon. Also a Macaw is a true lifelong commitment... I'd think long and hard before getting one considering you're so young and live with your parents. If you want to go to college I'm pretty sure most apartments and all dorms won't allow a Macaw. Another conure would be good think ora cockatiel...they sing and it's nice.

I just introduced Bella to my rb2 today after over a month of quarantine anyways 15mins later I asked Bella to give me a kiss thru the cage like I normally do before I go somewhere instead she let off a little shriek while lunging at my lip (luckily I was fast to move away) very unusual of her and I don't know what that was about as shes back to normal now lol

It can and does work to have more than one bird but IMO every box needs to be ticked first. I have ruled out completely having a second as my RB2 is a jealous puss and really not happy sharing. Would not be fair to make his life miserable with a situation he would not be happy with.

I have 3 conures, which equates to about 10 noise/energy wise. I am always dreaming of how nice it would be to have just 1. Of course, this is not nor ever will be an option. All 3 were babies when we got them. On the 2nd day, the GCC made it very clear that she would not tolerate the Suns at all. We had to make a last minute dash to Walmart for an emergency cage. To this day she still hates them. The 2 Suns love each other. You just never know how the dynamics will work out. Good luck.
