So I have 2 new fosters and I need ideas for names for them. One male and one female. They are not breeders but they are bonded. The female is young, only 8, but the male is at least in his 20's as he is an import. I really find it heartbreaking how many foster birds we get in that don't have names simply because their owners never bothered. It's sad.

Gail should really take interest here, because I have not one, but two, patagonian conures. Hopefully they aren't quite the little devils The Rickeybird is or I'm screwed.

I will try to get a few more pictures today if I can. They came home pretty late last night, so I just got them settled in and put to bed. The male is pretty skittish, so I didn't want to stress them out too much.

I will never see another Patagonian conure and not immediately think "oh look, a Rickeybird!".

Being they are primarily from Argentina (according to Wikipedia), the top picks for names in Argentina according to google are Augustina and Franco. I think either of those names would be nice for these 2:) How sad the boy has gone 20 years with no name:( 8 is bad enough for the girl! You know people just think of these beautiful creatures as decor, on par with inanimate objects when they don't even bother to name them:mad:

I haven't even been around that long and they're just "rickybirds" to me haha

I cannot fathom the people who don't name their pets. Maybe because I've always been around them but they are family members and should be treated as such. When I was young my dogs and cats were my brothers and sisters, never seen as decor. They normally ended up breaking parts of the decor!

My first thought when I know I'm getting a pet is to think of a name, if they come home and no name is given it becomes my top priority to find out their name (I like to get a load of names and let the animal choose out of them)

what about Callie and Marlo? Just popped into my head

I will admit, when talking to people who aren't on the forum, I have to remind myself to refer to them as pattys and not rickybirds. I think Gail has corrupted us all.

I agree, I love naming new pets. To me, it's like naming a new baby. Would you bring a baby home and not gives it a name?

haha I know this feeling!

I went with my family to a place here called birdworld a couple weeks back. Being the expert I was asked the questions and when we saw a patagonian in their flight aviary They asked me what it was and I instantly replied "that's a Rickeybird". Took me 10 minutes to realize my mistake, after my older sister remarked she thought the Rickeybirds had funny shaped heads

Gail has definitely infected our minds!

Well so far, they're pretty quiet. The only screamers this morning have been Peanut Butter and Jelly, my gcc pair, but they scream every morning, so that's nothing new. The male let me pet his beak a little, which surprised me because we were told he is completely hands off. Although even for as untame as they both are, they seem to be really sweet tempered birds.

The experiment to see if it's just Rickeybird or all of the species can truly begin now!

I find it funny how it seems to be whenever we're told a bird is strictly hands off they're very sweet tempered but when we're told a bird is sweet tempered and will go to anyone those are the bitey finger manglers!

Well, for names, I think I am leaning towards Callie for the female. Still not sure on the male. Nothing has stuck for him yet.

So cute <3 I hope they have a happy and beautiful time with you.
The male looks like a Cisco to me. Plus it's a cute C name to match the girl's ;) Best of luck with the naming !

I like Cisco, that may just be it. Thanks, I hated going even this long without a name for him, but nothing seemed to fit, but I think Cisco is it.

I haven't done too much with Cisco yet, since he is definitely the more skittish if the two, but Callie is pretty sweet once she's out of her cage. In all honestly, she's fairy sweet inside too, although she won't step up inside her cage and it is necessary to separate the two to get her to calm down enough to work with. It is easy enough to get her out, however, she is fine with me racing in her cage and scooping her up. She wasn't out very long tonight, as it seems to distress Cisco to be without her, but she sat with me for ten minutes or so and enjoyed some scritches.

haha good to hear they're doing well! Loving Callie and Cisco, sounds like the characters from an 80's cop show. Like Magnum P.I, that kind of thing

All in favor of getting the name of Patagonian's officially changed to Rickeybirds?
