So i've had my green cheek conure for a few months now (he's a turquoise color mutation, specifically) and recently he started getting pin feathers/blood feathers. Almost all of them are either growing in the dark gray or turquoise colors the mutation is known for, save for one. On the top of his right wing is an orange/yellow feather growing in. At first, i thought it was a seed shell that got stuck, but as he fluffed up and did the normal bird stuff, i noticed it didn't fall out. On closer inspection, what else do i find but a little pin feather growing out to be orange! So, i'm sort of curious about this.:greenyellow:

Feather coloration and location is part of the definition of a species. Each feather is to some degree or another mapped and defined. That said, from time to time, the process skips or misses a bit and an odd colored feather is the result.

Your specific Parrot may as part of the next molt replace that feather with one more appropriate with its species. Or, it may continue to place that odd colored feather in that location. Its all part of the complex process of DNA.

Every bird has a little color difference here and there.....that's part of what makes each unique. Look at it this way, you could pick your bird out of an entire room of Turq green cheeks.

My GCC randomly had a white spot on one of her feathers - it was just a random discolouration and nothing to be concerned about. As Sailboat said, sometimes stuff just happens. :p
