Green cheek conure - Sydney (Syd) Hatched 2/2017
Poor Syd had his bath this morning and I could tell he was really cold afterwards and took him on my shoulder sopping wet to dry him out and where he could warm up in my hair. It started me thinking about the Winter which at this rate could already be here and it's only August!

The heater that really appeals is the K&H Snuggler that fits to the cage and Syd can cuddle up to it but here in the UK we seem to be lacking. Are there any other thoughts from UK owners of heaters here or am I shipping from the States? What differences in power would there be etc? Would it be a problem? I didn't really want to use a rad.

You can use a hairdryer on warm dont want to cook the little guy, after his bath but it has to be the all free type, you know Teflon.

It has been dry for so long here so the wet is really welcome. It will get better starting tomorow I think?

Thanks, my garden is ecstatic - I have no idea if my dryer is PTFE free but then I never use it anyway - but it still doesn't answer the problem come winter. I can't see me leaving the central heating on 24/7 so will need to make provision for Syd and thought I had better start now rather than leave it til we hit a really cold spell.
It seems we really don't cater for parrots here very well, or at least I can't find anything so far and I have been googling for the best part of an hour!

In Australia you use 250Volts like the UK in the US we are based on 120Volts. So if you want to amazon, (or whatever) something over go with the UK version. I'm not sure about the plug styles because I haven't been to austraila.

Ahhhh! The sun has come out. The temperature is rising slowly and my little chap has started singing again. I think he has had a not very happy day.

Winter : I do not have a problem and manage most days without the heating on during the day. Heating off at 8am and back on at 4pm.

Obviously you need to keep an eye on the temp, if the temp does go very low then we will leave the heating on low anyway as it is easier to get the house up to a decent temp if not starting off really cold. If his cage is located in a room that gets any sun, that will help. Lots of toys and foraging to keep him busy and moving about will also help. Biggest thing is drafts so look for those and maybe close doors that are usually left open? I have found Plum is OK. He gets well covered at night which is the time I am concerned about, ensure his cover doesnt let in drafts.
