Hi,

I've been to the vet three times in the last week and my GCC is still loosing feathers.

He is alert, still eat, but slowly all his beautiful looks are going away.

I am a ball of nerves right now...didn't get much sleep last night ... I'm so worried.

We are going back to the vet in about 15 minutes, so we'll see what's next.

hello there, the question is if it's feathers all over or if it's in places he can reach. If he can reach all of them then it may be plucking which can be a behavior issue caused by boredom or stress. The ones you mentioned in another thread (please don't double post, it will get you less replies) on his face could be from him try to press through the bars of the cage, double check the width of them. Good job taking him to the vet, let us know what happens. Make sure they do all the necessary bacterial tests. I assume they're Avian certified?

If the Feather loss is indeed on top of the head, i.e.. he is going bald. Whats the likelihood of little more than molting?

Is the Vet you are visiting a Certified Avian Vet?

By simply provide a 'general region' of this huge World you live in as a Location, one can make a guess based on that region whether you Parrot maybe molting or not!

Hope that the Vet brings you some answers!

How old is he? And could he just be molting. My CAG is 1 & 1/2 & just had his first molt. I was a wreck seeing all of the feather loss. I thought, he’s either molting or became an extreme plucker over night. It was awful. I collected all of the feathers in a ziplock & took him to his vet. She confirmed he was molting. I would scratch his head & cheeks & they were just falling out. Than came the prickly pin feathers.
That lasted about 10 days to 2 weeks or so. I haven’t seen a feather on the floor since.

I hope you find the answer & it’s nothing serious.
