Tiki (Yellow-Sided Green Cheek Conure)
So Tiki and I have been together for around a month and a half. I noticed during some of the first days that there was this running line that went down one nose. So when I went to the vet, he said everything looked fine. I want the opinion of you guys, should this be of concern? It's only on one side.

I can’t make it out in the images. If your Vet said everything looked fine, did he tell you why there was discharge?

He didn't even mention the discharge at all. The photos are kind've bad, but basically it's a large line of white guck that has been dried on his right beak.

Personally, I’d get a second opinion.
Is the vet a Certified Avian Vet (CAV)?

It says that he's a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine... I don't see anything about being a CAV. He's been in the field for 25 years working with avian pets. The only CAV I know of lives out in Chicago, and I live further down in Illinois. This was kind've what threw me for a loop, he said he has his own African Grey, and said that fruits should be more snack related in comparison to veggies.

My Vet told me the same thing. Too much fruit increases their glucose & causes bacteria in their gut. So, I offer my Grey fruit more as treats than a daily staple.

So... I'm guessing he just missed it? It may have looked a bit like a flaking beak. I'll get him to the vet ASAP. I'm incredibly worried, as i didn't know what it was, and he had it from day one...

A doctor of Veterinary medicine is just a cat and dog doctor. He knows Jack about bird anatomy. Find a Different vet who is qualified to deal with a bird. You're gonna have to pay a lot for them but that's because they know what they're doing unlike someone who will take a look for some extra cash

Many vets claim expertise with "exotics" but the anatomy, physiology, and treatment protocols of avians require specialized training.

Can you determine if the gunk actually originates from the nare? (nostril) If so, an avian vet can better determine the cause and likely culture the material. Any other symptoms such as sneezing?

clark sometimes sneezes on me, with a little snark .......but he's never had a line of snot down his nose.....I'd hit google maps, center your area and type in certified avian vet....

The white gunk is rolling down right underneath the nares, so I expect it to be coming from there. When it comes to his activity level, hd seems fine. Here's some more pictures.

From the new pictures, she does appear "normal". That said, the white area, if that area is misshapen, in any way, there could be an underlying issue.

The area in which the white gunk gathers has ridges running down. So the beak is not completely flat underneath the white stuff.

Yipes! The Rb has had a few runny noses, but they have been clear, and disappeared after an hour, tops. Good for you for reaching out! Stick with us!

Glad you're here.
